I as of yesterday I'm doing a sort of fall/winter Bun Challenge. My hair is shory so I am baggie-ing my ponytail and adding my phony puff to it. Today is the first day I've worn it to work and I like how easy it was to just put it up. I want to add that I always wear my hair down and it has been getting annoying because my time is limited. I am also in the first stages of transitioning; so the bun I believe will be one of my staple stye I just need not to have it tight cause my head feels a bit uncomfortable today I will work on that tommorow. But I am definitely doing a bun challenge.
I'm not doing an actual "challenge." However being in the cold, harsh, drying Midwest, I will definitely be protecting my ends starting around late October/early November with both buns and phony ponies. It saves my ends every year.
After I get my touch up Septmeber 23rd I will be - I though I could make it until November but with the new growth I can't. Then I'll be hiding til Christmas.
So Fresh relaxer + still short hair + cold = Bun or Phony Pony I should say.
I want to start wearing a bun at work - I work in a lab and we have to wear headcovers which constantly snag my hair. My ends do not look as nice as they use to and I have to get very frequent trims - so it seems like it's impossible for me to maintain any length.
However, my hair breaks off from the elastic bands even though I use the kind that don't have any metal on them and I hate using hair pins. My scalp hurts so bad right now because I'm wearing a somewhat loose bun with pins keeping the ends tucked in - I can't take it!
I have to keep experimenting w/ different buns and types of pins until I get it right - and get a job that doesn't force me to wear this crap on my head everyday.
I have been wearing a bun since May. I use a satin scrunchie and sometimes tuck my loose hair in the scrunchie or twist with a 'good hair day' hair pin. I will be purchasing the phoney pony tomorrow too. I will continue this till armpit length, probably till Feb 07.
I've been doing this, but I am tempted to pull out the flat iron. Fall is the only time I can wear my hair out and without frizz. I'll probably resist temptation, though.
I am wearing my hair in a bun Monday-Friday, washing Saturday rollersetting it and wearing it down Sunday. Once it gets really cold, it's staying in a bun.
Where can I get a good phony pony? I can trade up with that this winter.
Absolutely!! I've been wearing a bun most days and just got a fresh relaxer yesterday. I'm going to wear my hair down for a couple of days just so I can actually appreciate all of my hard work, but by Sunday after church, the bun will reign supreme!! I definitely believe that bunning pays off!!
My hair is back to being dry and brittle. So it's time for me to start doing the baggie and bun thing again. I stopped doing this in November of 2005 and my hair has suffered as a result. I'll be doing this from now until March 2006.
I'm back on my fall and winter bun challenge. I'll continue to wash and rollerset to dry because my hair now hates air drying. I'll bun it or put it up with a clip during the week with a twist/braid out every now and then.
First of all, can anyone let me know where I can find these challenges, I have been high and low. Secondly. does anyone have any information, about doing a bun with your hair in braids. Not all of my hair is long enough, but I will bobby pin the ends that don't reach.
I just started today. I did a challenge last year from Sept. to the 1st of Nov. and will do it again until I go into full coverage with my wig for the winter months.
The bun is the best for retaining super moisturized ends. I ususally use a mixture of water, liquid protein, and I seal it with castor or coconut oil. I hope to reach full APL- with the bun challenge and my own personal winter wig challenge.
I think I'm gonna have to try this bun thing again, I tried it before and ended up with straggly ends, any UK ladies know where I can get a satin scrunchy?
I'll be doing a rollerset on Friday nights and wearing it down on the weekends and then putting it up in a bun or frenchroll on the weekdays until January.
I'm gonna try this. I'm on my own sorta mini bun challenge until Thanksgiving when I relax again to see how much length I can retain. I will wear it down once in October for my anniversary, though
I've been keeping my hair in a bun since my touch-up ;ast tuesday, i plan to keep wearing this style until my next touch-up, i hope to reach bra-strap quickly, so i'll do just about anything to acheive my goal.
Count me in!! I just started wearing phony ponies and using the baggie method and I love it! I'm new to buns, this month already I've bought 3 buns (synthetic) from my local BSS where there is a very helpful and knowledgable young lady who helped me pick them out. This is just too convenient especially at 9 weeks post relaxer so I'm going to try to keep this up throughout the fall and winter, we shall see! Blessed hair growing to all !
P.S. I've also been making my own ponytails with weave hair which is also a keeper .
