Any suggestions on what to do with my hair at camp?

Hi everyone! I got a job this summer working at a Girls Scout camp in California and I was thinking its a great time to work on growing out my hair since I'll probably be bunning the whole time.

I wanted to ask if anyone had any suggestions on products or methods that I should use or do. I was thinking of washing it maybe every 2-4 days depending on how gross it gets being outdoors all day. I don't know if I should try to keep it wet with a leave in conditioner in a bun most of the time or if I should use lots of oils or probably juice it the whole summer. I don't know where to start. I want to do whatever will keep it healthiest since this is probably the only time I'll be able to stand doing protective styles everyday. I'd love to grow and retain as much hair as possible.

So my question to you is what would you do to grow out your hair/keep it healthy if you didn't care how it looked for the whole summer.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

If it matters I have a mixture of 3a-c curls. :yep:

Yeah I was thinking I might have to cowash every other day if I'm going to be outside with the girls doing random actitivities. I don't want to start smelling like horses or dirt and scare off the children. :lachen:

Thanks for the suggestion! Do you know if cowashing is bad if I do it every other day? I don't want to strip my hair of its natural oils or anything like that.

I've recently come back from camping and I really do recommend you braid your hair up some kinda way. Cornrows, braids or something....
Things fall of trees and get lodged in your hair, insects, allsorts. If your hair is out of the way things would be so much easier. I wish I'd done this!

Sadly, I'm not too good at braiding otherwise I would cornrow it once a week and just spray something on my hair to keep it moisturized every day. I can do regular braids though so maybe I can do loose ones and just tie them back so I know my hair is detangled.

Thanks for the input!

I'm still debating on what types of products to use.

Wear a scarf, bandanna, or a baseball cap if you don't want to braid your hair. Wear something in the hair when walking in the woods; it prevents ticks from getting in your hair.

I think a french braid or two along with buns will be okay.

Braids braids braids. I worked at girl scout camps for years and u don't want to worry abt the frizz factor from an impromptu water fight or anything. It's gonna be great! Have fun! And dirt, bugs, etc. Braids, possibly individuals, would be best IMO

Braids!!! Or twists, trust me...I have been working in outdoor summer camps since 2006 and co-washing sounds great in theory but you are so tired at the end of some days and in the morning that a style that is protective with access to your scalp is best...for me at least. I am starting camp next week and I am going to put in my kinky twists this weekend. HTH and good luck OP, summer camp is so much fun!

I didn't even think to get baseball cap. I'll have to add that to my list of things I need to get. I'll probably try to keep it in braids and just wear them under a cap. And when I'm too tired, I'll just do a bun.

Thanks for all of the help! You guys are the best. I'm really hoping to retain as much as possible this summer. I'm so excited. Its my first time at camp =)

Ooo first time! Great! You're gonna love it :). And I forgot. You're right a baseball cap is a necessity. That sun on ur hair will bake you. I always liked the color I got from working outside. The damage? Not so much. keep it moisturized and u should be fine. GS camp is still one of my favorite places to be
