Any Suggestions For A Silk/satin Cap That Won't Wear On Edges?

Struggling with fragile edges after having a baby. I didn't have edges to spare to begin with . I normally just wear those cheap satin caps or rags that you get at Walmart or the bss but now I'm noticing that my scalp is irritated and my hair is even more fragile where the elastic part of the cap or the part that ties rubs againt. Any suggestions?

Wear the caps inside out so the seams aren't rubbing against your edges.

I believe I saw you make this comment or suggestion in a different thread a while back. I started doing it....flipping my du-rag or satin wrap over. Not only does that seam no longer tug at my strands, I also don't wake up the next day with an indentation line across my forehead.

Very good tip!

I'm glad the tip helped. I started doing this yrs ago...not too sure where I got the idea from but I know it works.

Get a bonnet with a drawstring. Got mines from here http://naturalsis72.com/product-category/bonnets-scarves/
I know this post is old but I'm getting a lot of stuff to take home with me before I leave the USA. I forgot I even made this post, but I found it when looking though my old posts because I don't want to clog the board with new questions and I know there are some things I already asked.

Do you feel the draw string makes a difference? Because that's still something pressing against your scalp so I'm wondering what difference it makes for you before I try this.

Thank you!

If you don't have a ton of hair to stuff under a cap or if you braid it down at night, satiny skull caps work great. They stay on better too. you can also wear it under a nicer looking bonnet and your edges will stay protected.

Can you wear a scarf, then put the bonnet on?

@DarkJoy
Where do you get satiny skull caps, and what brand do you buy?
I just get theme from any black bss.

oh look I see they're also called dome caps and there's lady versions! I usually pick up the men's ones.

These look like regular stocking caps lol. Are you sure they don't press on your scalp? Before I found this group, so back in like 2006-2007 I would sleep with a stocking cap on sometimes and it did damage my edges that's why I ask.

Oh I give my bonnet some slack. I tighten it just enough that it doesn't come off when I'm sleeping, I can easily fit a couple fingers between me and the bonnet. I also I don't wear it where it sits on my edges. The drawstring itself sits maybe an inch in front of my edges.

The old school stocking caps were that gapped nylon just like panty hose and heck yeah they ripped your edges and broke hair. these seem to be fine. the fabric feels satiny. my edges are still here. bonnets and scarves rip my edges clean off.

I do have some excellent satin pillow cases from a woman on easy. Every other "satin" I have tried has had pilling within a few washes. I have washed and dried her satin countless times ( I have satin baby sheets so those need washing frequently) and they are still perfect. I just like the caps to protect my skin from the oils. I wrote one of the ladies in that make the hats in the links provided above by the members who initially answered this and one lady said:

"Ok so the bonnets you get from the beauty supply stores, Walmart etc aren't real satin. It says satin but it's really nylon material.

The bonnets on my website are made on high quality chanteuse satin. I do not use silk bc it is very thin and not as durable as satin and doesn't hold up well after washing it.

All bonnets on the website come with both elastic and a drawstring. The elastic and drawstring is encased and covered with satin so I'd does not touch your edges."

I will definitely be getting some of those caps you menaintoned to wear under my wigs! Thank you!

I use these as well. I even gifted one to a friend who said she used nothing under her wigs. :spinning: I recently started wearing Pretty Anntoinete's silk beanie and it works great also.

I remember seeing Sylver2 do this with her hair and I started doing it too.

I still do it to this day because I cowash and air dry so much. I leave the scarf on to keep my damp hair in place then go to bed with my drawstring bonnet on top.
