Any permanent color = streaks?

I was wondering can you use any permanent color to add streaks or hi-lights to your hair? Do permanent color lift the hair before depositing color?

i think it depends on the brand of hair color, but i dont color my hair......YET..

I color my hair all of the time but the only time I streak is when I streak it blonde. I use loreal chunking however I have heard that people have streaked their hair with other colors using a streaking cap.

Thanks tinkerbell. I asked a clairol representative and she said no. All over color is for all over color and hi light are for hi lights, but personally I don't see the difference. It's not like the color knows it's just going on certain strains. For my hi-lights i'm really wanting a red or caramel color.

I would think so. My stylist used Dark and Lovely hair color and streaked it by using a cap.

Really now I woud have thought the same exact thing as u. I have seen different colors such as the red at Walgreens so maybe check there.
