Any Naturals Wake Up W/Moisturized Hair?

well this is basically for the ladies who moisturize before going to bed...idk if i should be concerned with this or not, but every morning i wake up my hair is dry..i moisturize at night w/ a water based product and seal with shea and coconut oil(somewhat of chicoro's method) then throw on my satin bonnet.it feels soft and moisturized then but when i wake up..dry city.right now my hair is in cornrows and im still having this issue so i know its not a loose hair natural thing.but anyway, my question is to see how many naturals wakeup with moisturized hair from the night before? and if so, what do you use?

Are you getting enough protein? Without protein your hair won't be able to hold in the moisture as well.

Before going to bed, I spray my hair with a moisturizer and then bag my entire head (with a regular plastic cap) and then put my scarf on my head. Yes, a scarf. Once the plastic bag is on my head, the scarf is there to keep it in place. If I use a satin cap, eventually, it gets sucked in the middle by the time I wake up in the mornings. But try the bag method. My hair is nice and very moisturized when I wake up in the mornings. Btw, I do not have to seal with an oil when doing this method.

I use to have this problem it like the moisture evaporated or something.

I cowash 5-7 times a week ( staples Mill Creek Organics, Aussie Moist and now Tressemme. Sometimes what ever I have in the PJ closet)

I then use a doctored Lustrasilk Cholesterol I prefer the olive oil kind. Seal with crisco mixed with coconut oil.

I recently did a test on a WnG. I have found that my moisture can last for at least 3 days. I didn't want to risk knots so I stopped there. I will also add a little Aussie Moist Mousse plus Con on me ends. That really has my ends silky. It's discontinued now :ohwell: HTH

Crisco????

My hair is always moisturized in the morning even though I don't use any products because I baggy my whole head every night and that not only locks in the moisture my hair had from conditioning so it's not lost to the pillow or scarf, but also encourages sebum production (I guess) coz my hair is usually soft and just a joy to touch with no hint of dryness.

IA with the others, baggying might just have to become your new bff, or maybe try some steam treatments when you DC?

i think its the coconut il thats doing it to you.

i always wake up with soft hair whether its out or twisted/braided. i used qhemet heavy cream or i will spray my hair with ojon mist and seal with shea butter.

I notice a huge difference depending on which bonnet I use. When I use my regular BSS satin bonnet (usually made from polyester) my hair doesn't retain as much moisture. When I sleep with my prettywrap bonnet (made from silk) my hair feels like it hasn't lost any moisture whatsoever.

A plastic cap is probably a cheaper alternative, I just don't like the crackly sound all night.

i put evoo in my hair at nite and in the morning. when i 1st started doing it i would wake up with dry hair (hence me adding more in the morning). but after a while i would wake up with moisturized hair. i then thought i could stop in the am. as soon as i did i started waking up with dry hair again. so the key for me is to do it 2x a day even though i wake up now with moisturized hair. and i use A LOT OF OIL in the pm :D

My hair is usually moisturized. I've never had any problems with dryness. I usually dc once every 1-2 weeks and use a leave in with each wash. I also use shampoo with each wash. My hair doesn't like cowashing.

hey OP I had to ditch shea butter because it never left my hair soft past a good 6/12 hrs...

I have been using a water based leave-in spray (Aphogee pro vitamin). then I mix coconut oil along with a creamy leave in.... I alternate between paul mitchell's "The conditioner" and Herbal essenses LTR

and now using these products I moisturize every other day before going to bed and I wake up with soft hair that lasts all day and then some.

If I need a lil sheen I mix in som fekkai glossing cream because even though my hair will be soft it can look a lil dull at times....

And I will add that I do not use A lot of the products mentioned above... a little goes a long way....especially with the glossing cream

my hair feels very moist when i wake up due to:
1) DC'ing with heat and now steam once a week (i don't have a steamer, I do it the bootleg way with a warm towel under my dryer)
2) sealing whatever moisturizer i use in with castor oil. i LOVE castor oil-it's great stuff!! :yep:

when it feels dry, that's when i know i haven't been DC'ing like i should be. do you DC on the regular??

Whatcha say...whatcha say. How long have you used crisco? Has anyone else tried it? Pro's? Con's?

This is what I do as well.

I think this is a key point.

I think that these are all on point. Satin and cotton absorb moisture. Satin is great for protecting hair that is not wet, ie relaxed, straightend, flat ironed hair. Silk is probably like the satin.

Plastic is great for hair that has some water-based product in it. I think the posters are right on point when they suggest to try the plastic to keep in the moisture, and then place a bonnet on top of that- for styles where the you want to have moisture retention the next day.

I think the other posters that mentioned the type of oil have a point as well. It could be that the coconut may be drying. My suggestion is to change one thing and do for a week. Then make another change. If you change everything at once, it may be more difficult to determine what worked.

How soon after you put the products on do you put your bonnet on? What I've been noticing is that I have to give it a few minutes to "settle in" then put my bonnet on. I'm slowly transitioning to silk as well, my hair just feels less dried out in the morning.

I'm a 4a/b natural, and I have to moisturize no more than once a week. I spray my hair with my mixture of rosewater and glycerin, then apply my unrefined shea butter whipped with coconut oil. I'll moisturize twice a week if I want more shine, but I don't have to.

What has worked for me lately is just letting the steam from my shower mist my hair and coating my hair with castor oil. My hair stays moisturized and full of shine and I only need to coat my hair once max three times a week before my shampoo day.

Hope that helped!!

Excellent thread (subscribing).

I remember Nonie's posts about dry-baggying were amonst the first tips I read about here and used to SUCCESS. Her method really works for me.

I own like a 50-something pack of clear plastic conditioning caps from the Beauty Supply store and re-use each one many times as well as wash them. I always have one in my purse to pop on and hide with a scarf or hat, as well.

I moisturize with a water based moisturizer, seal with an oil and put a shower cap over my head then tie one of my satin or silk scarves around that before i go to bed. my hair is always moisturized in the morning when I do this.

On the day I DC I don't baggy I just moisturize with ORS olive oil Hair Lotion after DCing and then at night sleep on a satin scarf spread on my pillow. But I baggy usually six days a week though.

I just mad a year since BC on the 1st. I have been doing it since a month after BC I believe. I did a thread but every boy in it acted like I was out of my mind for using Crisco. I got the idea from Naturally Curly. I used the vegetable oil one. Not even sure if there are other ones. It hasn't hindered my growth. I am between SL & APL now.

Pros- Ends are moisturized and I can wear WnGs, puffs, loose hair, etc without a lot of knots happening.

- cheap
- helps the curls pop

Cons- No smell so if you need that you have to add it

- Too thick to use if you want to flat iron or have a bouncy rollerset
- I cut it with oil to make more of a butter. It's very thick of course.

I have a horrible cam but I added pics of my BC vs 12/09 after using it.

Sorry to hijack OP.

I have tried a lot of methods but what usually works for me is:

I sleep with a humidifier. It really doesn't matter what I coat my hair with, my heating system sucks all the moisture out of the air :/ When I fall asleep and my humidifier isn't on I wake up with dry hair (and dry lips and dry everything), but when I leave it on overnight, my hair feels a lot better.

I can actually go a couple of days without moisturizing at all with no problems.
I use aloe vera gel/distilled water/glycerin mixture. For MY hair, nothing compares.

If I cowash every couple of days with my Super Soft Honey Conditioning Rinse and apply Seyani butter, I'll wake with soft hair all day long :yep:. I tried the baggy thing, but it irritates me to no end :ohwell:. Doing 2 braids after applying the butter leaves my hair crazy soft in the morning.
