I will be going off to basic training for the Air Force soon and I need some advice on how to wear (cornrows, twists, etc) and take care of (wash, moisturize, etc) my hair. My hair is 4a/3c. Thanks!

my sister and alot if the girls did cornrows and individual braids for the 6wk period. Are you doing your basic in TX. Make sure you find out early on who can braid. If you don't want extensions you might try the 2strand twist/bun style in my album but make the bun low so you can wear your hat.

I'm not natural but I am in the af. How long is your hair? Basic is very hard on hair

I looked like a mess for 6 weeks. I would suggest getting cornrows or braids. There won't be time for deep conditioning or any lengthy hair treatments. Anyways I would go for braids or cornrows but nothing fancy or colored because they will make you take them out. Just make sure to bring a good leave in and some gel : o)

Hi I am in the Air Force national guard. I agree find out early on who can do hair. Usually on Sunday is the day we all did our hair because that is like a laid back rest day. If I were you, I would get cornrow braids and just do quick co washes when you shower and then on Sunday, wash with shampoo and condition. I must say I was blessed to have a lot of sisters in my flight and if I do say so myself, we all kept ourselves looking fierce inspite of everything. So you might want to take some braid spray and some cheap stuff like suave. Then when you get to tech school you can take them out and maybe get a trim at the salon if needed. Or just go back to your regular routine. I am natural and I rarely trim. I wear braids off and on.

Hey spanishteardrops where are you stationed at and how long have you been in?

VinDieselsWifey, I will be praying for you and hope everything goes well. I had a blast when I went through basic and found some of my best friends during that time. PM me if you have any questions. Q

Sorry it took so long for me to respond. I am in the National Guard now. My husband is still on active duty. We both have been in for 8 years. What is your AFSC?

I agree on getting the cornrows, individual braids but not too long. Your only going to have time to jump in the shower and rinse your scalp. Also you want to make sure your not having a hard time keeping your BDU hat on ,so if you get cornrows try to get small ones.

Your going to be in San Antonio, ahhh the memories. Make sure after graduation you go see the river walk it is so much fun. Good luck to you!
