Any Fine Hair 4a/b Design Essential Relaxed Ladies?

Hi Ladies,

I've just splurged on the Regular Strength 4lb tub of Design Essentials Relaxer. I'm hoping I haven't made a grave and pricey error, but I have fine hair (lots of strands) that I'm trying to nurse back to thickness and I need a self relax option that won't thin me out like Silk Elements. Do you think this will help? Also, is application a factor? Does using a brush make a difference when relaxing? Do you think Texlaxing is possible with this if I add oil or conditioner?

What do you think?

TIA

I'm a Design Essentials girl (well, still waiting on the tub I ordered- but that's a whole 'nother story). I don't really think I have the answers but I don't know how one can be sure if this one won't thin you out like Silk Elements.

I use DE's Lo-lye relaxer, I've never used the regular kind but I think some other ladies on this board have and do. The names escape me.

I believe application is always a factor, overlapping being one - meaning relaxing beyond the roots onto the strands especially in the back. I don't know exactly what texlaxing is so I won't touch that, but I self relax with a perm brush.

Sorry I couldn't help more but do a search for DE relaxer on the board and just wait a few moments, I'm sure someone with better advice will chime in soon!

Hey pmichael,
Thanks for the response. I was curious, where did you get your that you are ordering? How long have you been using this and what were you using before Design Essential? I have used the other products from them and loved them, so I figure the relaxer must not be bad.

Thanks again

Yes I ordered a 4lb tub as well and I think it was a wise purchase. I used it to self-relax on March 30th and there was no burning. I purchased the same kind as you did.

I think I am 4a...the Design Essentials got my hair extra extra straight and that is not really what I want. My hair is kinda thin already so that just maximized it for me. I stopped using it almost a year ago and switched to Elucence. I can tell the top 6 or 7 inches of my hair has a bit more fullness and texture than the bottom half where the Design Essential relaxed hair is.

My stylist uses Design Essentials on my hair and my hair has significantly thickened up over the year. I guess I'm 4b...I dont really do hair typing. Ive never done a relaxer at home (Im too scary...I know me!) but she uses a brush. I dont know if I would say Design Essentials THICKENED my hair but it certainly brought my hair back to life.

Thanks ladies,
keep the responses coming. I'm begining to think I may need to not do any smoothing or dilute with castor oil to get the texlaxed texture I'm looking for. Either way, I just spent enough for 12 applications so I better find a way to use this stuff up!

Well, I'm not sure this of any help, but I use the design essential texturizer for touch ups. Since i started using it a couple years ago I notice that my hair doesn't relax so straight and now I can hold a curl or braids and I like it (I used to use fabulaxer faithfully). I don't have fine hair, but I would call my hair thick either. HTH :)

I won my purchase on E-bay. The last touch up I put in was Motions Mild, because I had not gotten by DE yet. Before then I was with my stylist who used DE lo-lye on me for 2+ years. Before going to her, I was self-relaxing with Motions Mild which is why I used it recently... because I'm familiar with it.

I stopped going to my stylist because we both have busy schedules. We are members of the same church and her openings don't agree with my time. She monitors my hair often to make sure I'm maintaining the health that she put back into it.
