Don't worry Hopeful, you are not alone. I did the big chop with just a 1/2 inch of hair and went natural in January of last year. Had MAJOR FUN in my naptural journal and then relaxed my hair in December. It's now just barely shoulder length. Now here it is March. I'm back in braids and can't wait to cut the permed ends off back down to my 1/2 inch. I don't know why I even went back in the first place......
Was it because when your natural hair started growing, it became more difficult to style? I know that was the case for me. It was no longer carefree and fun.

Three years natural and I never plan on relaxing again, ever. My hair is the healthiest it has been in years. This was not the first time I went natural and my hair always seems to thrive in its natural state. Plus, my hair is fine and thin and relaxing didn't help. Even though my hair is 200% better I don't know if it will ever fully recover. I love the texture of my natural hair and actually its much easier to work with now that I've mastered the skill.

It's a possibility. I don't think I'd ever go back to bone strait, but I am contemplating texturizing. My natural hair is way healthier than my relaxed hair, but it's getting HUGE, like out of control big! LOL And it's much harder to style. Oh, and I HATE the knots! I guess I can cut it to make it more managable, but that defeats the purpose of growing it long. I'm going to hold off for at least another year, (CD Hair Mimosa has strengthened my resolve) so I can reach my hair goals before drastically changing it in any way (chemically-including color). Hopefully, this is just a stage and I'll figure out how to deal with longer natural hair. Looking at hair albums does help me think of new styles, but as you all know-one size doesn't fit all, especially when it comes to natural hair...BTW I live in Texas too and humidity+press=disaster, so that's pretty much out!

I am not saying never, however, there is a strong possiblity that I won't perm again. Simply because I can now have it both ways: If I want it straight, then I flat iron/press it, if I don't I can wear my naps. Besides my hair was much longer before being permed and since perming I never gotten passed shoulder length.

Hello, my name is Amina. My hair type is 4a/4b and I am nappy 4 life .

Yes, it's possible...I've had the idea of growing my hair longer {which is taking FOREVER} and getting another relaxer. At the same time, I don't really want to deal with touchups every few months either but I don't have many styling options now so it's a very hard decision. I'll just wait and see what happens and how I feel this summer.

This month makes 15 years I've been natural (relaxer-free). I'd be very surprised if I relaxed, texlaxed, or texturized my hair. Heck, I'd be shocked to see myself pressed or flat-ironed.

When I hit about 75...80, nearing the end of my journey I plan to adopt a lot of abandoned habits. But even then, I doubt straightening will be one of them. I'll either cut it low or keep it in granny buns and plaits. I'm anticipating thick, silver krinkly, kinky/curly hair and I'm haunting any mortician that presses me for my final viewing.

I'm never relaxing my hair again. Getting my hair relaxed and/or texturized was never pleasurable for me (I always had sores, blisters, etc no matter what I did), and the results weren't worth it. Relaxing didn't save me any styling time, mainly because my processed hair was hard for me to manage. My hair is easier to comb now than it was when it was processed, and breakage is almost non-existant.

I'm also extremely allergic to all chemical haircolor (including lighter shades and temporary rinses), so my hair will remain chemical free for the rest of my life.

Someone asked was it the styling that makes the difference. Well for me no. My relaxed hair takes too much to grow out. Yes it did grow but retaining the length and being so meticulous ended in me hating my hair. I had to make suer it didnt get wet and make sure it was up at night and make sure I did this and that. I cant stand it. Too much work. And for all the work I was putting in on my relaxed hair to get it straight I spend LESS time getting my year of new growth straight. 1 and 1/2 hour MAX. And an hour of that time is under the dryer since my new growth is so thick :).
