I do. My purpose of going natural was a spare of the moment decision due to a bad dye job. Im happy i did bc i had to learn how to deal with my texture and in essence learned how to deal with chemically processed hair. After reading a few posts on natural hair i was under the impression that a lot of people feel that u r a trader or buy into the mental state that u want to project to the world something that ur not. I could be wrong and if so i apologize but personally i live by the motto if u like it i love it. When i reach my goal i will happily get a relaxer and i will still maintain my role as being a strong young black woman. And if along the way i get mistaken for being part indian which i usually do when i wear my long black sewin, who cares? Despite the different textures of hair we are all mixtures of various races just in different ratios. Sorry for the long post

Well that's why this is a great site, whether you are natural or relaxed you will find support here. :)

To answer your question, NO I will never again put chemical relaxers on my hair. But that is me.

I have no choice its either chems and baldness or natural and have some hair. My hair hates chems period. I actually admire the relaxed/texturized heads that can have healthy long hair with chems. I flat iron for the straight look and people dont even suspect I'm natural some even ask is my hair naturally straight or is it a relaxer, go figure:cool:
I'm a 3b crown and front/3cmajority/some4a

No, I won't perm. If I want to wear it straight then I will just press it. I love the versatility of my natural hair.

But i have a question, why do you want to wait until you reach your goal to relax? Why not relax now?

Nope. Going to be natural for life. I don't even want to get a texturizer.

I want to have thick and big hair when I'm older and not see-thru hair which happens after years of relaxing (Just look at older women who are in their 50's/60's who are relaxed).

Yeah some of them do have the thin damaged hair look.

Thought about it then thought against it. I wanna see my hair get Chicoro's length as a natural

i thought about it but i am having too much fun with my natural hair ...maxiglide people ask did you get a perm ? plus my scalp could not take the chemicals any more it was perm and be bald or natural

I have no intentions of using any chemicals except maybe dye one day. I get my hair blown out when I decide to straighten it.

A relax or texturiser never really worked for me. Of course, I do like to see how hair looks when clients in the curve salon get a silkener and of course I say, it might not be a bad idea for two seconds and then I remember how I was bald from relaxing and my hair was weak for many many years. Even getting my hair highlighted, I do it myself. I realise that I can't trust a hairdresser with my hair and since I have been doing it myself, it is fine.

Most of the older women I know are natural and only get press N curls, plus I never really see them w/long hair, LOL, always a short style shoulder and above mainly wearing them tight curls. I'll have to take a look around to see if that's the case. I also would like to add that alot of older pple hair began to thin out when their older especially in the crown area, so I wouldn't blame that on chemicals, I would say it's mostly poor blood circulation and just the life cycle, cause their are older men and women who have natural hair and it is very thin at an older age. :ohwell:

NO, not at all. If I want straight I can temporarily straighten and when I want curls, I can go back to that.

nopes, i really got a "been there, don't that" mentality when it comes to relaxed hair--i know how it looked, how it felt, and i can't think of one good reason to take my hair back to that state. :)

Actually let me further my post some. I live currently in Central Florida and the older women here usually are thinned out from relaxers and have major breakage. (Which is a different look say from someone who has a press and curl and is older, their hair overall is usually healthier.)

YET, When I was living in NYC, the older women usually had a press and curl and their hair was much more fuller compared to the women I see in Florida.

But regardless as you stated, no woman shouldn't be applying chemicals to their hair EVEN if they know they are thinning. Why worsen the problem?

Im waiting till May because that is when I am graduating, I have estimated that I will be at my first goal of bra strap not the ultimate of waistlength. Even I f I haven't reached it , that will be my graduation present. It is too humid in houston for my press, I had to flat iron everyday to maintain it.

Everyone has varied opnions based on experiences, however I can understand where your coming from. Good luck with the new relaxer you'll be starting an exciting journey, you have me support and lots of advice on this board on how to care for your relaxed hair. There are so many relaxed ladies here with healthy long hair, such as Allandra, supergirl, Adrienne etc. you can do it too.

I am still a natural premie (under one year). I don't think I will perm it again. I will press and curl once I get to my desired hair lenght.

Im transitioning and most people cant even tell so why relax again? Id have to say no. Firts I cant see myself being 60 still getting relaxers. Secondly they nevre took well to my hair anyways. Thirdly you cant tell the difference unless my hair gets wet. Fourthly it costs too much. Fithly my hair gets longer without a relaxer (mid back) versus with a relaxer (longest ever was bra strap). Sixthly :) I dont like the chemicals and Lastly It would be a waste of my time. I transitioined for months and to go back would be like losing 10 pounds and then binging. Not for me.

Nah, relaxers are not for me. Enjoy your natural journey, have it fun with it. You never know, you might enjoy it!

I love the way my natural hair looks pressed...very soft and lush. I might get a texturizer though because it takes me hours to do natural styles. I want wash and wear hair.
