Another disaster at the salon!

That's it, I'm dumping this stylist! Why am I paying $75 for some so-called professional to massage relaxer INTO my scalp?!? My scalp is not all that sensitive, but I've been to this hairdresser three times and each time I start burning as soon as she starts working! It's like she's kneading the relaxer into my scalp! I'm so fed up! I'm *this* close to flying to NYC every 3 months to see the famous Marcia!

As the hairstylist massages the relaxer in to your scalp, do you speak up and let her know that the realxer is supposed to be directed to the NEW GROWTH, not your scalp?

It's happened before, so I asked her can she try to start about a quarter inch from the scalp. She said okay, but I don't think she really tried. And even though I started burning almost right away, I tried to hold on as long as I could because I didn't want to deal with underprocessed hair again. I know, I know, bad Tee!!

What a stupid idiot this stylist is. Sorry for saying that but I'm so sick of hearing about the no.of bad stylists out there after all the YEARS that relaxers have been around. You'd think by now they'd have twigged on the healthier way to put them on. Geez....

I'm sorry this has happened to you again. Try asking around with friends/colleagues with great looking relaxed hair and asking who their stylist is. That seems the safest way to go. Or buying that flight ticket....Good luck with finding your new stylist...

I agree with you BRH. This is exactly why I relax my own head. I mean really. What person working with good common-sense would massage someones scalp with a relaxer! She needs to have her behind

Good luck finding a new stylist...I really hope you don't have to fly to NY to get your hair done, that is unless you really want to.

I agree with BRH! Ask some friends, family, etc... about salons and possible recommendations.
It's a shame that you had to go through this!

Since your scalp has a tendency to burn, you should base your scalp
or ask your NEW stylist to base your scalp prior to a touch-up!

Like BRH said, you should try asking friends/colleagues with great looking relaxed hair who their stylist is. Marcia sounds like a great idea too (but she can bump your appointment if she has to do the hair of a celebrity - I remember reading that here). I knew if I flew to NYC to get my hair done and my appointment got bumped, I would not be a happy camper.

Does this stylist think that was actually soothing your scalp (by massaging it with relaxer on)? Since you burn as soon as she starts working, it sounds like your scalp may be more sensitive than you think. I've seen stylists spray a little oil sheen on a burning scalp to sooth it for a moment or two, but I've never seen one do this. She's lucky you didn't

So as she's MASSAGING this relaxer into your scalp, what are you saying/doing? Fair enough it's one thing the stylist is incompetant but why sit in the chair and put up with it.

Tee, what city and state do you live in? Did you check the salon discussion board for possible stylists in your area? That's how I found the stylist I'm using right now. She's not scissor-happy and she's all about healthy hair.

I think there's 2 of us that are going to her now since getting the recommendation from Kedra (our fellow board member.)

I'm in the Detroit area. Yes, I've checked the Salon board and it seems a lot of us Detroiters are having trouble finding good hair dressers .
