Totally Friggin Confused!!!!

I'm sitting here reading posts as I started to unbraid my hair to wash it. As I undid the 1st braid I pulled on my hair. Three strands of hair came out. One strand looked like a string of tightly coiled O's. Just like a spring. Another strand had a very, very loose z pattern. Huh? And the third strand was dead straight. Where the heck did that come from?

My whold head is like this. All over. I have not relaxed my hair in about 3 years due to a large sore spot in the front crown of my head. It's so sore that it hurts to even touch my hair in that spot.

No wonder I can't comb my hair without having breakage, knots, and extreme dryness. My poor babies (hair strands) are so confused. And since they are confused I know I am.

Protein make my knots stronger. Just what the heck I need...super knots. And I can't seem to find a moisturing conditioner that is moisturizing enough to combat the dryness which leads to the breakage. Sigh.

My doctors say my hair's problems are due to my immune system's reaction to the cancer I have. And I should "treat my hair gently". Hell, I've done everything but sing to it. Yet, I have lost length (bsl to sl), volume, and body.

I must admit that my hair seems to be stabilizing somewhat now. The shedding is less. But I just don't know how to care for it.

I'm gonna get a cold root beer and curl up with a decorating book I bought earlier today. No hair washing tonight.

Thanks for listening to me vent.

It is very hard to guesstimate your hair type without photos.
You sound like a very strong woman and your strength will help you get through this.

It sounds like through it all, you are doing a very good job with your relaxer-free hair.

Always feel free to come in here to air your frustrations. That is what sisters are for. Cream of Nature with the red writing is my favorite moisturizing poo. I also love ORS Replenishing PAK for conditioner and Giovanni Direct Leave in.

I pray that your treatments will be successful and your immune system, body & hair will return to normal very soon.

Fletgee you are very strong and brave, keep fighting and don't claim it! You remind of this woman I saw on a movie called "The Secret" (its also a book). The lady I am speaking of healed herself from cancer when none of her doctors said there was anything she could do about it. You should definitely check it out of you have not seen it!

As for you hair, you should really assess it after you wash it, that's when it shows its true colors. Recently unbraided hair (pre-wash) does all kinds of funky things. However coils are typically 4a and Zs are typically 4b so you might be 4a/b its very come to have a mixture of 2-3 different of patterns.

Hope this helps and best wishes to you and your family. Hold them close!

You sound like a very strong woman. Your siggy has inspired me. I believe your hair strands are very strong because they have been through so much! They are certainly stronger than any of our strands.

I had a first cousin that I watched battle with cancer. And she was very strong like you.

I wish you the best. Please keep your spirits up. And I will probably think about your siggy comment about having so much more for the rest of the day.

You are strong and brave. I love your attitude towards everything. For the knot issue try the domican rinses. Capilo makes the balsam rinse. It works wonders on my new growth. after you DC and rinse out. Apply some of it on your hair let sit for 1 minute and comb out while under the water.

Good luck with the hair and my prayers are with you. Just keep doing that happy dance.

Fletgee, whatever else you have going on, you certainly have positive attitude in abundance! Love your happy dancer.

Wishing you the best and holding you in The Light.

Thank you, ladies.

Hold on lady, it is possible some of the medications you have had to take are making your hair a little confused also? My dad had cancer and the texture of his hair completely changed after months of radiation. I have seen this with other cancer survivors as well.

I don't know if you can find a site for particularly women of color and see if this topic comes up for discussion. I imagine it does. Maybe that will shed some like on your situation also.

Stay strong.
