An example of what works for some doesn't work for others

Hair:
"I have a daily hair routine in the summer. I wear my hair curly and natural. I use Soft Sheen's Carefree Activator, Kera Silk conditioning treatment, and I blow dry my hair upside down. I'm known as the ponytail queen. I don't use gel, I use Dax Wax. It puts a shine on your hair. It looks like I got it permed and I don't have a perm. If I had a big enough house, I'd have hair pieces out like shoes.

I have an inhouse stylist. His name is Dr. Boogie. He's been with me for seven years. He does styles for all my movies, the sitcom and red carpet events. The key is not washing your hair very often. I can go a month to a month and a half without washing my hair. Then the problem becomes trying to get the oil out. I almost want to use Palmolive to cut the grease in my hair. I have to wash it six or seven times.

I use Dark and Lovely Protein Intensive Conditioner or Kera Silk and Biolage Neutralizing Shampoo and Crème of Nature to get the glue out from weaves."

For me I cannot go a month without washing my hair. For one I put products in my hair to style it and that builds up overtime. But apparently it is working for her.

She probably should use palmolive. If she's washing that infrequently it wouldn't hurt.
Personally I could not go that long without washing my hair. I like my hair to look, smell, and be clean.

How long is her own hair, wearing weaves and pieces is an indication to me it isnt working.

That is way too long for me...my hair starts shedding after 4 days post wash. I didn't think people still used glue for weaves...its so damaging. They can just use clip-ins just as easy

I remember this was brought up months ago in a thread about LisaRaye's hair routine. :yep: She probably doesn't wash her hair often because she doesn't want to lose her hairstyle for all the shows she has to do or she may not feel like dealing with her hair.

Dr.Boogie does Raven Simone's hair too. Oh and theres an article on Amel Larrieux. Her hair is gorgeous.

Hair
"I wear my hair natural and I have to stay on top of it. I am very much into lubricating my hair. I use different hair oils and pomades and I only wash my hair every two to three weeks," Larriex says.

One of her favorite hair products is Monoi de Tahiti, a coconut oil with coconut extract directly from Tahiti, which she uses to oil her hair and scalp. She also uses Indian hemp as a pomade.

Larrieux has a hair care routine that she recommends for women with natural curly, wavy, and/or frizzy hair. She encourages them not to wash their hair too much. When you do wash, use a hot oil treatment once a month. She also swears by using a leave-in conditioner like Nexxus Humectress, her favorite. She says it's great for the thickest of thick hair.

"I try not to use the word nappy because I don't like the word nappy," she says. "I think we can look for ways to redefine our hair."

Larrieux also likes to use Pro-Line's coconut oil, which she finds light enough to use in her hair of several different grades. She also uses a pomade that her grandmother used, Clairol's Vitapointe Creme Hairdress and Conditioner.

After washing her hair at night, she oils her scalp, puts a bit of oil on her hair, then sections and braids her hair in two, four, sometimes six braids. She says the process protects and sets the hair. In the morning she takes out the braids and runs her fingers though her hair to create a wavy effect.

"It's as simple as that," she says. "When I go to shoots I tell the stylists not to touch my hair because it is the way I like i

This thread brings to mind a patient that comes to our office. She came in one day having just had her hair done and we were all blown away cause usually she her 3c natural hair in a tore up bun. I asked her would she go back to getting her hair done again regular and she said,"Oh, no. I only go to the hairdresser every three months. My scalp doesnt get all icky. I just use olive oil." I was like, whoa, THREE months? And her hair is almost waist length!!!! Now I will mention that when I saw her a week later her hair looked so greasy from all that olive oil, but hey maybe she knows something that I don't.

This has been posted several times.

I can't imagine bragging about letting my hair be that dirty, but hey whatever works for her.

My grandma told me that my great-grandmother used to was her hair only 2-3 times per year, if that...I've seen pics and her hair was tailbone length. I don't know how the heck she did it! I can't go past 1 week if my hair is out. This girl at work says its good to leave the hair a little dirty-she says it helped her hair to grow; she doesn't wash too much, or so she says, but her hair doesn't ever look dirty either. I guess it just depends on the person! I've always learned otherwise. My boyfriend always picks up on the scent of my hair especially if I have just washed it, so I'd rather it smell clean than musty!
