Hey ladies,

As I'm sure many of you know I am on a quest to find the right Dominican product for my hair. having said that, I did some research on ingredients and I'm not too sure I want the same ingredients used in coolants on my hair!:perplexed

proplyne glycol:
  1. (chemistry) 1,2-propanediol, CH3CH(OH)CH2OH, a thick oily liquid, used as an antifreeze and in many industrial applications
Nitro-1.3 Dioxane (closest definition, similar property)

1,4-Dioxane is primarily used in solvent applications for the manufacturing sector; however, it is also found in fumigants and automotive coolant. Additionally, the chemical is also used as a foaming agent and appears as an accidental byproduct of the ethoxylation[1] process in cosmetics manufacturing. It may contaminate cosmetics and personal care products such as deodorants, shampoos, toothpastes and mouthwashes.[2]

I notice simliar issues in Silicon and Miss Key ingredients. Perhaps there isn't enough of these "harmful" ingredients to pose any serious danger on its user...but how can we know for sure?

well ammonia is used in relaxers and we know ammonia is a common household cleaner. Sad but true:perplexed. So getting away from these chemicals, especially iif products that aren't natural, can be a challenge.

We may never know but think about it.... like there are a million things that we use on ourselves that are chemically laden and could possibly kill us, if ingested. For example, Zinc Stearate is in a LOT of powder cosmetics, it is a chemical that, if ingested, can kill, but no one has died from using Cover Girl or anything. If this one ingredient bugs you, then think about relaxers having the potency to unclog drains or Coca-Cola being able to burn acid deposits off a car battery... These are done on a more regular basis and are done unconsciously... I'd worry more about what's in your Coke than whats in a bottle or product...

Don't read too deep into it. DO be cautious but don't be "scared" of it.

Its all about concentration. The concentration of those chemicals when used as coolants isn't even comparable to what is in a conditioner.

Just about ALL chemicals whether they are synthetically made of dervived from nature, are harmful at certain levels. Lye is used to make pretzels, lye is also used in stomach meds to control acid problems. In high concentrations it makes a relaxer, in lower concentrations it controls the pH of a lotion or shampoo.

ammonia is used in relaxers????????????????:look:
I stopped using dominican products lately. Some of the ingredients that I have never seen and have looked up scare me.

Props!!!! *daps*

true this:yep:

Thanks ladies. But when I look at how "natural" other products are, I can't help but wonder why La Bomba choses the ingredients they do.

Come on now...Anti Freeze?

I started a thread a couple of years ago showing that some gov't agency (I think the FDA) had the La Bomba conditioner on some kind of 'beware' list.

Do a search. I can't even remember what I wrote.
