Am I the only one \"scared\" of her hair????

EEEEEK! I am so afraid I will mess it up in some way. That I will use a product or wash it a certain way and ruin all my hard work. Like this past Saturday I self texturized. TURNED OUT GREAT...BUT the neutralizer created knots and tangles in my hair. Some areas I lost about 6-9" in length (it all blends now I can't tell where it was...lol). And I was so close to chopping it all off and doing whatever. Thankfully ms_jennifer talked me down /images/graemlins/kiss.gif But, I cannot help being wary of products now. Not knowing what will set my hair off /images/graemlins/laugh.gif Will it be this shampoo, this conditioner or the next hair cream??? Oy! So far on my never touch list is anything with ALS/SLS. I get MAJOR tangles/knots. I'm not sure if I'm alone but the closer I get to my goal(waist length) which I was told was unattainable the more anxious I'm feeling. I feel like I'm walking on eggshells where my hair is concerned. I have thought of braids but my hairline would NOT thank me for that so that's out. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif I do need to find a way to calm down though /images/graemlins/drunk.gif /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Am I the only one \"scared\" of her hair????

Yep, I used to feel this way A LOT... When I first joined the forum, my hair was nowhere near as healthy as it is now, so I would ALWAYS dread "the comb-out" after every wash... I would look at all the hair in my comb and just feel sick to my stomach!! /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Anyway these days my strands are SO much stronger, and I'm so much more comfortable with washing, relaxing (even though I don't self-relax), and coloring, because I don't have to worry any more about excessive breakage!! /images/graemlins/up.gif /images/graemlins/up.gif

Three cheers for LHCF!!! /images/graemlins/cheers.gif /images/graemlins/clap.gif /images/graemlins/drunk.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think that many of us have been scared. I was petrified when I moved from NYC. I didn't know how to handle my "wig" because I had been going to a Dominican salon since forever.

Now, I feel just as, if not more, competant with the needs of my own hair. I still get my relaxer and colourshine done at the salon, but for the first time in my life, I feel free to move about the country without worrying "Who is going to tame my mane?!"

Faith, I SOOOOO know what you mean. After making so much progress...it would be terrible to lose it all because of a mistake I made... Sometimes, it's like walking on a tight rope! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif I think it's because I'm about to pass the point where I had to cut my hair off before.

I am now trying to practice not being so nervous w. my hair:

Re: Am I the only one \"scared\" of her hair????

My new growth terrifies me! The comb out after washing takes so long if I'm more than 4 weeks post touch up. I'm afraid to risk the tangles and breakage. None of this stops me from seeking the miracle product or technique, but I've been reluctant to style my hair at home during the last 4-6 months. I'm not nearly as gung ho as when I first joined LHCF and started relaxing my hair.

Im scared of heat styling because I dont want to interupt my curl pattern...but I know for a fact that I will never use a PRESSING COMB again.
