Am I not trusting God by staying @ this job???

My boss is verbally abusive to either myself or my coworker every day of the work week.

I came off of unemployment early June 2011 (after over two years of searching, daily). I landed this temporary position (no benefits, no discussion of permanence at all) due to the fact that I worked for this company about 6 years ago.

I make less than I did when I left this company the first time. I took this job because it was the only one (in all of SoCal; LA county, Riverside County, Orange County, Ventura County) that gave me a start date.

I cry to my mother almost every day and endure statements like:

  1. Why do you move so slow? I could have been done already if I were doing this myself!
  2. Why does the storage closet look like that? Everytime I go in there I get angry (she's a foreigner who has lived here over 20 years and hasnt really grasped all the ins-outs of the English language)
  3. Why do you put your hair in a bun? it's sooooooooooooo short!
  4. you better not wear those shoes (sandals, alas she wears louder flipflopy sandals - daily)
  5. You cant be on your cell phone (she saw me as I was walking to the hallway *on my break* - as she pushes past me screaming in Arabic to her daughter)
The list could go on for about 300,000 more characters.

I have told the temp agency that I work for how verbally abusive she is, asked them to please find me something else (I look for a permanent position every single night prior to class).

Do I need to pray more fervently? What should I do???

I dont want to endure if it's a waste, as i want to have the best disposition I can when i become a nurse and go into the army.

Please advise Sisters in Christ - thank you so much

Oh boy! You're right to document this to your agency. They have an obligation to protect you. Sure, pray about it but see if your agency can set you up elsewhere in good standing but I know that Cali is hurting badly right now. You need to tell your agent again because their clients have an obligation NOT to abuse their temp employees.

Why is she so concerned about your hair & Footwear? she should be concerned about your work ethic, and the last time I checked hair dress, footwear and work ethic do NOT go hand in hand :nono:. Pull her to the side and ask her what is her problem, if that does not work talk to the person above her !!!

Sweetie i dont know your financial situation.. but id leave that job if i were you. That kind of abuse can really affect your self confidence and sense of worth.. and will hurt you a lot in the future... can't u do something to make ends meet while u look for a job?? Cashier somewhere? Wait tables? Bar tend? These may not be ideal i know, but they are much better than what u r goingthru. Take heart please...

Well, while you are praying for God to send you a better job, etc.

In the interim, ask God to give you a "deaf ear" to her complaints and give you a happy countenance when she flings negativity your way. So that it doesn't affect you emotionally or spiritually.

Pray for your boss every morning before going to work. Pray for the work atmosphere.

If you can have music. Play soft inspirational music in your cubicle. Don't talk about your boss with your co-worker; it's just feeding into the negativity.

Oh, i want to... I want to work at starbucks, biglots, something, then at least I could move around - you know...

SoCal is a horse of a different color...

Thank you for your words of support!

it's part of the dress code that she doesnt follow.

and not to have something to say to *everything*, because what you're asking is logical ~ she's spoken in a condescending tone to her boss, the SVP and all he did was say "gosh, she's in a bad mood today!":look: Didn't consider that rude, or insubordination or I should write her up. Everyone is "above" her and they hear her berating people left and right (vendors, building mgt, managers from other offices) and do nothing:nono:, ever!

She'll just talk over me and say "anyways!" or turn it around.

lilanie if the employment market is not so great, what about packing and going to another city or state? I kno that sounds hard... but it sounds worse than it is... or find a baby sitting gig watching kids for like $50 to $100 per kid per week? thats much cheaper than day care.... best chance is find a friend or relative that lives in a city with good employment and live with them for a while until u get a job... what is your financial situation like? Whats keeping u in SoCal? Family? Kids? SO?

judy4all:

I am seriously considering moving to another state... I've stayed this long for the fact i am in an instate resident (for tuition purposes) as well as being a military brat - I've moved *too much*.

Additionally, i have young grandkids that live here and a daughter that has put me in a situation where I have to stay for a little while longer *sigh*.

Right now California has the cheapest, higher education tuition (due to that same daughter, i havent had the best grades, so I rely on student loans to supplement my income) and I am trying to get into nursing school so I can leave once and for all.

I do wish there was a way I could just pack and leave - since my last final is tomorrow night... but the little bit I make has me living paycheck to paycheck: although I will have attained 3 degrees (Health Sciences - same as prenursing, Interdisciplinary Studies and Spanish), have 15+ years as Exec/Admin.Assistant as well as a Professional Secretary rating.

Can y'all pray for me? I am uber sad and my face is breaking out in hives....

lilanie, don't let anyone stress you ... I agree that prayer is in order for this situation. :yep:

Unfortunately, temp agencies work for the companies that pay them, not the temps... their only 'protection' to workers is to remove them from any bad environment and place them someplace else.

Have you considered registering with multiple agencies? I've done this before with three agencies, and when one couldn't find me anything, another was able to right away.

I am praying that God gives u the strength to make the right decision.. i cant imagine how hard it must be. Please let us know how things are going and reach out if you need encouragement. Dont forget tho.. that you cannot lose your life for the sake of family... you have to take care of yourself so u have strength to care for them too.

I soooo agree with this.... folks think prayer won't change things but it does, esp when we pray for difficult people or those who give us a hard time, shifting the focus from us to them and what they may be going through to cause them to act the way they do. We release burdens doing this!

MarriageMaterial, judy4all & Laela - thank you immensely for your prayers and standing in agreement with me...

Although, it's temporary ~ SHE'S IN A "GOOD" MOOD... Meaning she'll either stay out of my face or can't think of anything to verbally beat me over the head with.

God is right on time, ALL THE TIME!!!

Have you been applying to the city? I know the competition is fierce, but I've gotten alerts for several jobs. Also, have you tried the bankruptcy courts? They are hiring office workers to help them process them. One of my friends works with them in LA. She said they are needing help countrywide!!!

I'll try the bankruptcy court... I have heard that too!

I will certainly look into that ~ thank you Guitarhero!

Interesting that she's spoken that way to her boss, and people above her hear the way she talks to people. It reminds me of an article I read a while ago about bully bosses and how sometimes nothing is done because of some type of value they bring to the company.

They must see your boss as valuable because she increases profits, saves the company money, or she's better at her job duties than previous people who held her position. Or who knows, maybe she has some dirt on the SVP that she could use against him and he's afraid of that.

I agree with the post above about registering with multiple temp agencies. I did that when I used to temp.

Best of luck with applying to the bankruptcy courts!

She's a middle-eastern lawsuit just waiting to happen. They are riding low on her for this reason. :yep: She may have threatened somebody with a lawsuit already.
