Trade Secrets in Canada doesn't stock Kenra products. They used to though.I went to Trade Secrets today to see if I could possibly order Kenra MC and pick it up later in the week.So I went directly to the white lady at the counter and asked her if they would order a product for me.And she asks me "Is it a hair piece?"
The rest of the story isn't important but both me and my bf found it kind of weird and mildly offensive that she would ask me that. She has no idea what my hair is like.It was in a bun.And even if my hair were super short she still shouldn't be asking me that.
I have always felt that other races thought black people's hair doesn't grow.I had a friend of another race who flat out asked me "You guys' hair doesn't grow right?"
This was pre-LHCF and my hair was very short and damaged so I didn't know what to say.

But anyway,I'm going off on a tangent.DO you all think I shouldn't find that white lady in TS offensive?Maybe people order hair pieces from TS all the time and I just don't know...

Nope. I would have came back with "No miss but can you tell me what you use on your moustache so my hair will be just as thick?" and walked out. I know corny but it beats popping a fist upside her head.

Well... no, I don't believe that you are being too sensitive. She shouldn't have said that.

but

A lot of black women do buy hair pieces... I don't think she meant it in a bad way, just making a guess based on what she thinks is the most probable. Still... she shouldn't have assumed.

Unfortunately, you are correct. A LOT of the "other" races DO believe this ignorance to be the truth. :nono:

Well, knowing me, I probably would have been offended, too; however, just to play devil's advocate, maybe she was asking because their hair pieces were on back order or something like that, so she is asking everyone who wants them to order something that question first. Or...she could just be a moron :look: .

I can see your point, she shouldn't have been so presumptuous. There might have been another reason why she was thinking of hairpieces too. I wouldn't take it too personally, she probably didn't mean it in a malicious way, just kinda ignorant.
Something similiar happened to me when I went to a make an appointment at a beauty school for a colorshine. I walked up to the desk and said I would like to make an appointment, and before I could get the words out of my mouth the lil white girl behind the counter goes "..for a relaxer?" :lachen: Just for fun I opened my eyes wide in horror, looked at her hair and said "NOOOOOO!".

Can you really blame them when a lot of our own race seems to believe the same?

I agree, our own race is quick to ask if a black woman with some hair on her head is wearing weave.

I completely agree!!!

Katie if I were you I would write a letter to Trade Secrets head office describing the situation. Kenra is a well known salon product that I see in many "white" hair salons in Montreal. The Trade Secrets in Montreal sells Kenra products.

I got a blank expression from Trade Secrets when I asked for Nexxus products and if they could order it from another Trade Secrets in Ontario for me. (Nexxus is not sold in Quebec, since it is not translated into French).

WOW!:sad: I've never heard anyone say that, but that's kinda offensive to me. I can't wait to prove people like that wrong!
