I don't have a hood dryer but I want to deep condition my hair with heat?

Are there any other ways to accomplish this? like a blow dryer, etc...

Thanks!!

When I am being lazy and do not feel like sitting under the dryer, I put a shower cap on and use my blow dryer. I move it around my head being careful not to leave it in one spot for too long. I normally do this for 10 minutes or until my arm gets tired.

I have heard other ladies use a wet towel that is microwaved (for less than a minute) and placed over a plastic cap to do a deep condition. This is supposed to be better because it is a steam heat. This is also free if you use a plastic grocery bag :D . I am known for using old grocery bags to deep condition ;) . I finally stopped being cheap and bought a couple shower caps.

You can also just invest in an overhead dryer or heating cap. I was suprised that both come in at around 30 bucks!!!! You can't beat that, it is a great investment. I would just bite the bullet and purchase one.

I bought a flexible hood-like attachment for my blowdryer for $8 at BBS, which works great!

I use this too. It's so much more convenient than lugging out and setting up my hooded dryer. I actually have two. The Gold N' hot one that I have does not have a drawstring to help it stay on. So once it heats up, it has a tendency to float off like a balloon. I usuall pin it down with bobby pins.

I do the same thing sometimes when I don't feel like using my free-stand dryer. I use the plastic grocery bags....I paid for them so I'll use them until they are all gone...which probably will be never because every week I seem to get more and more...LOL! It's not being cheap, but wise spending!

Some Ladies are using towels without the showercap so that the hair gets oxygen. Try both and see what works for you :)

Thanks for the great tip--mine does tend to float off if I move at all!

Walmart has a pack of 15 plastic caps for 97 cents. :)

hmmmm.....might try that tonight....I'm going to the BSS in a lil while to get a tub of Humecto for my wash tonight...I'm going to alternate between Humecto and Kenra i think.

I do a version of this where I put the towel in a clothes dryer and use that type of heated towel. I've never tried a wet/damp towel though... seems like that would be heavy on the head:lol:

For those who do not use a plastic cap and go straight to the towel, how do your keep your damp hair from rubbing, tangling, or getting caught up in the towel? :scratchch

Be careful when you do this. It might feel warm when you test it with your finger, but it can be super hot on your scalp. Also if you heat it too fast for too long, it will completely break down and look like melted ice cream.

you can try MicroCap. it is a terrycloth Microwaveable Heat Cap w/reheatable gel packs that comes in a turban-style. it works well for me & its practical because it's cordless. i ordered mine from microhaircap.com & it was only $16, if you are interested.

For those of you who use the towel, do you finish treatment when the towel cools? It doesn't stay hot for very long.

You could use a warm/wet towel and/or a heat cap. Also, you could use a blowdryer over a plastic cap...(which will take longer, IMO)

Wow. I was just excited to finally get a heat cap this weekend...now you tell me about this! I've never even heard of such a thing.

Now, I've got something else to snap up for those days when I don't want the restriction of being plugged in. :yay:

Def. I was using a wet/damp heated towel around my head overloaded with conditioner before I got a hair steamer (journal link), no plastic then you get the steam and humidity directly. works really good.

I've heated my conditioner in the microwave just enough to get it warm, but not hot and put plastic caps on my head. I've tried putting a plastic cap on my head and using a blowdryer, but that was a pain. Lately, I've been using a hood dryer to deep condition. I

That used to drive me crazy about the Gold N' Hot heating cap that I had. :wallbash: It used to work its way off the blowdyer, too. Eventually, a big hole developed in it and that was the end of that.

Yesterday I tried a hot damp towel directly on my hair covered with a plastic cap on top of the towel....worked like a charm!!!

When using the plastic cap and towel how long are you all keeping this on your head?

I tried a version of this on Saturday for my deep conditoning. I wanted to minimize the use of heat of my Ion Soft Bonnet dryer since I knew I was going to be using it again for my rollerset. I used a terri cloth hooded thingy that came with my Aveda DR set. It's supposed to be designed to work with your body heat. I wasn't to sure about that, so I put it in the microwave for less than a minute and then put it over my plastic cap. I left it on for about 30 minutes. Is 30 minutes enough time for getting the benefit of deep conditioning that you would normally get with a hooded dryer?

Does Sally's sell heating caps, if so how much do they run? How much does a steamer cost?

TIA for your help!

ITA! I did this recently and it works great for those times when I don't have time to sit still under the steamer or hair dryer. I used a Hand Towel, a bath towel would be too big and bulky.

^^^I tried it that way on sunday and boy was I happy, I loved the feeling of my hair so much I didn't even shampoo after rinsing the conditioner out I just added my leave-in and let it air dry in a bun. I turned all my kids old baby towels, into shampoo towels, it's thin and light weight so I just used one of them.

Co-signing, I dont deep cond under a hood anymore. Do my prepoo and deep cond with the hot steaming towel. Now, I can deep cond in the shower while shaving, etc. No more jumping in and out for me:D

I find the pre-pooing kinda tedious so I dont do it that often.
However, I do my deep condition either with a heat cap or while doing housework or working out at the gym.

My gym DC is, apply my ORS replenishing pak, cover with a shower cap. Put on instant weave and cover the front with a head band. Work out for at least 30 minutes and rinse in the shower. TA DA!
