Hi everyone,
I'm new to the board. I have type 4A hair - and following a brief heart illness several years ago, my hair broke off in a quarter-size area in the top of my head. The area seems to be spreading recently (now about 2" x 2") - I'm not bald, but my hair grows out to a certain length, usually no more than an inch, and then breaks off to about a centimeter.
I've been to 2 doctors, all thinks it's from scratching to much. I notice prior to my hair breaking off that my scalp area feels very tight, almost like skin that's dehydrated, itches like crazy under the skin - possibly nerves one doctor told me and suggested getting a biopsy of my scalp. My hair in that area feels like a different texture - much coarser.
My hairdresser is stumped as well - he has a couple of clients that have the same issue - hair grows out, and then breaks off down to the scalp. I want to know what to do, who to go to, if my hair will ever grow back in more than an inch or two.
Please let me know if anyone has ever experienced this, suggestions, etc.
Many thanks.
Alison
