Yesterday I was at church in between our 1st and 2nd Sunday Morning Worship Services. Two beautiful ladies with beautiful hair shared with me that they both eat a handful of almonds every day (non-salted ones). I was in a conversation with one of the ladies about my hair and another lady walking up the stairs overheard our conversation and confirmed that eating a handful of almonds a day works great for hair growth. I'm assuming that it has to do with the protein that's in almonds.

Yep, you guessed it, I had a handful of almonds last night and today.

What are your thoughts?

I have heard/read something along the same lines---the protein & the good fats.
Darn!--I wish I liked almonds..... :ohwell:

almonds in general are amazing food. i usually keep almonds in the house or organic almond butter instead of peanut butter. i wouldnt be surprised; they pack an astounding amount of protein.

YES they DO work... I posted this in a thread once... I was eating them everyday and I did get a growthspurt, and your nails do grow strong too... you won't suddenly get 2" a month or anything but i do believe that they help with your hair, also with growth. You might get a bit of a growth spurt. I'm in love with almonds! nuts in general, like cashews and stuff and i only like them raw, not oiled or salted, yuck. I haven't had any in 3 weeks though and my mom bought some and it's the oiled and salted ones so I wont eat them. I eat the natural ones from Winn-Dixie, they are so good! i actually eat them with cheddar cheese and grapes sometimes :look: ok i'll stop talking now  i read stuff about it too, just so you know :)

I love cashews and I too hate the salted kind. You're talking to a woman who picks the salt off of pretzels. :lachen: So, I totally understand where you're coming from.

I eat raw almonds almost every day, not a handful though. Besides protein they are high in iron and there are many other health benefits. I love almond butter too.:yep:

There have been several studies published about the benefits of almonds and nuts in general. I eat a daily mixture of almonds, pecans and peanuts for health. I've done this for the past 2 years. Is this what made my hair grow from my disasterous perm last year? I had less than 1/2 inch after a stylist permed me 2 weeks after color. I thought it was the Perm Repair and Blue Magic. When I got my hair relaxed in April it was brushing my shoulders!
I would love to see more info on this.

Almonds are a wonderful source of vitamin E and Walnuts are a wonderful source of plant based omega 3 fats. Both are good for the skin & scalp. :)

I eat both and have noticed an improvement in my skin. :D

Wow, I didn't know that nuts have so many health benefits. Thanks for the great information!!! Is there a certain amount that should or should not be consumed in a day?

Hey ladies, I bumped this post up from 2005 to see if anyone want to get in on this for a nice growth spurt. I'm not sayin it got to be a challenge or anything :look:, but it would be nice to see some nice growth considering I just had a trim that I am quite disturbed about right now. I had a goal of reaching MBL by January, but now have to push that back to Apr 09' :wallbash:. Anyhoo, I'm gonna TRY to eat a handful of almonds EVERY day for 1 month to see if I notice any differences. I will take a before pic very soon as the one in my avatar is pre-trim :wallbash:.

I do the same thing. When I see people biting into huge chunks of salt on soft pretzels I cringe  I rub the salt off of chips, pretzels, and fries too. I like to taste a little of the salt in there but don't want to bite into any amount of it. Yuck!

And to the OP, almonds are very high in protein and very tasty so I can imagine it would contribute to great growth. I had a great growth spurt when I did Atkins for a few weeks and I ate a lot of nuts and stuff.

I love them. Almond butter is de-li-cious.
Among the other good features they have biotin, zinc, vitamins B5 and E... I alternate them to walnuts (=omega 3).

3 almonds a day should be enough but I always forget and I eat 37. :-DDD

I've always loved Almonds (mainly in chocolate) and Cashews (definately lightly salted!)...think imma have to jump on this bandwagon to see what will happen.
I tried to eat str8 RAW almonds one time....and they tasted like pure Bark...:nono:

I eat almonds as a healthy snack I personally haven't noticed any boost in hair growth I also snack on pecans, nothing big. But they taste awesome Yummy :D & I don't feel guilty eatting them.

They tasted like that to me too at first. After a while, I grew to love them. Raw almonds is definitely an acquired taste. I don't eat it for hair growth though, I eat it for my skin and overall health.

i like almonds too. i put some in my food sometimes( like making asian dishes adding just a bit or cashews instead). i like eating almonds natural wwithout salt, same for cashews,no salt for me! my friend takes almond every single day! she arabic ,and got levely hair but i dont know if its due to this, as she eats healthily.

Nuts will conflict with fitness challenges - i.e. they're fatty so you do have to watch your servings just ask any diet and fitness guru. I enjoy most kinds of nuts and actually prefer some like almonds and cashews raw. Maybe they help to keep my hair healthy but they share credit with a hundred and one other things - no fast(er) growth.

all that protein... i need to try this. working in a place where i wash my hands constantly has ruined my beautiful nails in just one week. maybe this will make them stronger. ♥

I'm pretty sure its a combination of the nut protein, and the vitamin E found in almonds, that contributes to hair growth. My nails grow long and strong too, when I eat nuts and drink my egg cocktail on the reg. Walnuts are also a good mix with almonds, because they are high in omega fatty oils and vitamin E. I buy the 100 calorie snack mix combo of both almonds and walnuts for snacking by Emerald, and they're sodium free!
