I am pondering a potential business opportunity and I wanted to know your input. How much access do you have to hair products manufactured in (or mainly distibuted to) the US? DO you find yourself having to order everything off the internet or do your local stores carry the products you seek? I know most of us are PJ's in here (I know I am!!) and i was wondering how deep the distribution channels run in other countries. Do you have beauty supply stores and are they are prevalent as they are here?

Just wondering as I am trying to put a business case together for a product distribution idea I have.

Thanks for your help!!!

hi, i live outside the states and i have a hard time finding good products, from conditioners to satin bonnets.

In my experience when ever i do manage to find a product in my local beauty supply, i get home , open the stuff either smells funny or has a strange color and texture. In some cases i had to throw out the product cos it was off!!

and the vitamins are just another story, im still looking for biotin & b5. I had to order my biotin from the states

i would be happy to be able to purchase good quality products so keep me informed of you idea

Thanks

I live in Germany and unless u are military, it can be a hassle locating the products and accessories u need. My mom mail sometimes mail me stuff from the States and recently, I ordered products from the UK. I have found some things at the "Afroshops" here but not everything. I just phoned my mom yesterday to mail me some snag free (Blax brand) hairbands because I couldn't find any and to have them shipped from the UK was like 10 bucks for a 1 dollar purchase.

I've mentioned it before to several people, but if someone was willing to do it, there is definitely a market, in Germany at least, for quality hair products and accessories.

Good luck to u and if u pursue this idea, let me know.

Most European countries (outside of UK) don't cater to non-arians ....

Maybe WE should talk!

I live in Germany now. I don't even try to find anything here - every time I go home, I go to my favorite shops, buy as much as I can and then ship it to myself (sometimes waiting between 3 and 6 weeks). I don't know if items can be found on the military bases though ...

Wow. The situation is worse than I thought. It even sounds like some products that are being sold are old or discontinued items. I just read recently that L'Oreal was working a plan to increase distribution to Europe for their ethnic hair carre products but I see that is not happening.

Are there beauty supply stores in your respective countries, or do you have to purchase things from other stores (i.e. grocery store)?

I will definitely keep you all posted on my business plan. I may need some input from time to time but I'll be happy to share information with all who participate.

Thanks so much!

I live in Toronto, Canada. I can get the majority of the products that you can get in the US. It is a little harder to find products that cater explicitly to Blacks, but in area of the city with a high Caribbean population I can find it there. If not, I can always take a day trip to NY State to get what I want.

I live in Germany and unless you have family ship good products chances are I have to order from the internet. They do have some beauty shops off post, but unless you really want the products then you would purchase them. They are very very expensive!!!! It would be a good market especially since us military wifes don't have good market to buy the products we really need. I mean we just got Doo Gro products in the PX. Good luck with your business idea. Trust me for reasonable prices we would purchase. Sheldeez.com ships over here and a couple of others. They don't tax us, but we pay for shipping.
