(First let me start by saying that I had a dream that my hair was a little longer than shoulder length. It was the WEIRDEST dream becuz Ive NEVER EVER EVER had a dream where my hair was long!!! What are ya'll DOIN to me?!?!? :lachen: )

Newho, Ive been really struggling with this whole hairstyle thing. Ive been wearing headbands the past few days, which isnt too bad. But I was seriously considering getting a sew in. Mainly becuz I get sick of figuring out what to do w/ my hair until I get some more length and can be more versatile. Plus Im going to the gym like 3 or 4 times a week and that adds another question of 'what to do w/ da hair'. And a girl wants to look fly sometimes w/o having to worry about if Ive already used heat this week... :look: .

I was looking for you guys' pros and cons or prior experience. I figured I would do a protein treatment before I get it done since it will be in there for a min. Did you all experience alot of breakage from the braids? How long did yours last w/ proper care, etc? I assume that working out will make it wear out a little faster but I may be wrong. Can you wash your hair while the sewin is in? I will still be moisturizing/bt'ing my scalp but after that, I dunno what I can do. Did you experience enough growth to make it worthwhile?

Thanks of course SO much... :D

Okay... I'm gonna try and make this response as coherent as possible. First off, It depends on your hair's condition if you need a protein treatment or not. I'm natural and don't really do them unless I flat iron my hair.

I usually keep my weaves in for 5-6 weeks only because I get tired of the style. They still look good by then. I think the longest I've ever gone was about 10 or 12 weeks. You shouldn't go any longer than that.

The thing is to make sure that your hair is not braided too tight and that they're not sewing the weave in too tight. And to keep your hair moisturized under the braids. I use a braid spray. You must take care of your weave just as you would as your own hair. That means washing, deep conditioning, etc. It will also allow the weave hair to last longer.

As far as washing goes, I usually wash once a week and detangle with a wide toothed comb under the stream of the water in the shower. I also DC once a week. I airdry. That's just my regular hair routine. I use the same products I use on my own hair. Adjust it to what you usually do to your own hair. I also don't use a lot of products on my weave bc I don't want the hair weighted down. Hope that helps...
