Hey mamas, my boyfriend just came up stairs a bit ago, all discombobulated and **** (I really don't care if I used the word right, it just sounds cool) about a show he heard on Chicago Public Radio with Devra Davis the, the author of the book The Secret History of the War on Cancer. He told me that African American girls at the age of 1-3 are growing breasts as a reaction to using placenta hair conditioner. I guess the placenta has a boat load of estrogen causing the breasts to grow. Damn. Now before silly girls start bathing in placenta to help their breasts grow, this **** is found to cause cancer in African American Women (because it's a primarily Black hair product). Me myself has never used placenta conditioner, I've seen it a few times at that Black (Korean) hair supply stores and I always thought it was a little weird. What ****s me up that this is known and scientifically proven but the **** is still sold in stores. I've also read somewhere that hair relaxer is known cause cancer too but that **** is being used every 1-2 months by millions of Black Mamas. We are essentially killing ourselves in the name of self hating beauty standards.

While researching the net I found this site which believes the listed products listed below may cause cancer because of placenta/estrogen ingredients.

Has anyone seen actual proof, like a scientific study about this?

I've heard this for a while, but I think its an urban myth.

Has anyone looked at the ingredients now for some of these products to see if they're still using the same formulation? The article says the list is of items that have been previously found to contain hormones. I thought some of the makers of these products on the list changed their formulas. My memory is not the best but it seems like someone had complained before about the change in a formula, namely Perm Repair, and it not being the same. Just a thought, but this is very good info and yet another reminder for all of us to be informed consumers.

yes, its not a recent news. i know its banned in some parts of europe.

I know that B&B supergro used to contain estrogen, that was why it actually causes supergrowth, at least for me. After the research came out that estrogen supplements cause cancer, they changed the formula.

Great post. I've never used one of those placenta conditioners. I could never get over the fact that it had actual "placenta" in it.

Ummm, can someone tell me what my cholesterol conditioner is REALLY made of? I'm frightened to find out. :nono::lachen:

I don't think I use anything that has it, but I am off to check right now. I was looking at a Dominican conditioner that had it, but decided to purchase something else.
