Hi ladies, I have a hot oil treatment by prosheen and I use it for my pre-shampoo. It makes my hair very soft and am generally happy with the results. The problem is that I noticed today only that the ingredients are mineral oil, lauryl alcohol, lanolin alcohol, benzlyl and isopropyl alcohol (+ others). It says to leave it on for 3-4 minutes but sometimes I leave it on for half a day, it seems to have helped my hair alot in terms of stopping my shampoo from stripping it.

1. Should I stop using it even though it is shampooed out and doesnt seem to be doing any harm?

2. Are you supposed to apply pre-treatments to wet or dry hair?

3. Any recommendations for others with kinder ingredients?

Thank you

Hi lonei

I think that's why I prefer to make my own with EVOO. I've tried some of the pre-mixed ones and they left my hair kind of dry. I never bothered to read the ingredients. Hmmm, this may be the reason.

If it's working for you, then it may be okay.

That's one of the fatty alcohols (as are most of the alcohols in hair products), so it won't dry your hair out.

I thought isopropyl alcohol was drying.

As far as I know also, it is; however, if it is working for you, I'd stick with it

. I agree with kitchen_tician, though, that mixing your own oils is a great idea. I apply mine to slightly damp hair (distilled water from my spray bottle). Your hair is lovely, btw, so I think you're definitely doing things right

Sorry, I didn't see that one--I was looking at the lanolin alcohol. The isopropyl is drying, but not the others.

I like ION Hot Oil Treatment and Nature's Therapy. IMO, commercially prepared treatments are better for the hair than using pure oils for hot oil treatments.

why do you say that?

So ultimately, will this product damage my hair even though its being washed and shampooed out?

Well, I'm with you--I think I would select one that didn't have isopropyl in it just to be on the safe side. BUT I did love ION's Moisturizing Conditioner and for some crazy reason, isopropyl alcohol was one of the inredients.

My LaMaur's Bone Marrow Treatment also contains isopropyl alcohol... I don't use it that often, but I DO use it...

I think that as long as you use something moisturizing in your hair afterwards, you should be fine.

BUT, I'm still trying to figure out why they would put Isopropyl Alcohol into hair products...

Thanks Lindy, I use Motions Mositurising shampoo afterwards and I rinse throughly so I hope that it should be ok, I havent had any problems so far but the isopropyl is like 9th on the list (out of 12) anyway.
