So last week I drove to Memphis to see my parents (per avatar) I straighten my hair did a length check and wore it straight for a week, now I'm in braids. Paid too much money for them, its another story.

So today I drove back to my parents house and my mom pulls me asideto to tell me that I need to be more professional in my appearance (WTH?? I live and work 200 miles from them and only visit durring time off and a have very nice clothes) and then I realized where this conversation is going.

"Your hair looks so much better when it is down and straight and you've grown it out so long. You should get it relaxed."

Now last week at the salon the STYLISTS where ask me what products I used and what I was doing to my hair 9not bragging here just the facts). I told her, I don't need any help. period.

Ugh, ain't it some ish when people want to tell you what to do with your hair and they had nothing to do with how it got there???? They don't know that I had to go through and what I had to do it get it so healthy and I'm not going back to the way it was. (no offense relaxed heads, but Mizani made me bald:lachen:.

Vent off.

Take it with a grain of salt girlie. There's always gunna be someone with commentary about your hair your this your that your life. Shrug it off. At least with your mom you know it's coming from a place of love, misguided as it may be.

moms will be moms. shrug it off. someone will always not see things "our" way and want to tell you what you should be doing. Give mommy a polite thanks mom and K.I.M.

That's what I say. People always want to comment on someone that deviates from the norm, as if it is a detrimental thing. My mother looked at me like I had lost my mind when I first told her I was going natural. After almost two years, she doesn't have anything negative to say because my hair is healthy and I'm happy! Hopefully your Mom will understand that its fulfilling to you.

My co-worker was like "Can I give you something to make it wavy :ohwell:; it's not a chemical :look:" :lachen: I only get compliments from white folks regarding my natural hair and they could be BS'ing me too .

Black people, en masse, hate natural hair, or should I say, they hate natural 4a/b hair. I wonder why :spinning:.

How could your freshly done braids be viewed as "nonprofessional" by mom?
