After parting and plaiting, how do get 4b hair lay smooth?

Just after I plait my two year old DD's hair, the style looks about 5 days old just after completion- all frizzy and "slept on looking". I moisturize (glycerin and aloe vera mix) and seal with castor oil. I dont brush her hair at all. She is natural, of course.

Any suggestions?

I find 4B hair the easiest to plait and the kind that keeps looks tidy the longest. Do you have photos of what you mean? How are you plaiting her hair? Single squares? Cornrows? How big? Are you making them small enough so that no hairs are being left out?

This is my natural 4B hair cornrowed:

When you braid, try smoothing the hair with your fingers before the cross-over so you tuck in any short hairs whose ends might stick out. Also hold the hair close to the cross-over point as this will make it easier to tuck all the hair into the braid. Does that make sense?
