After being relaxed for 3 months, I've decided to transition to natural

I am transitioning too. I will be wearing braids, cornrows, weaves, and African silk/thread wraps so that I would not be in a style rot. This would also stop me from getting tempted to relax.

I believe it is a mind thing too. You need to be ready mentally.
Look at albums and find a natural inspiration, I believe that would help you a lot. Also find products that would work well with both your natural texture and relaxed ends.
Congratulations on your decision and good luck.

thanks brandy! RE: the african silk/thread wraps what are they? tia

I am transitioning also. I have found that low manipulation styles help me the most. That way I don't experience breakage at the demarcation line. Moisture, Moisture, Moisture...oh and a little protein to keep the elasticity in check. Congratulations on your decision. ITA: its a mental thing...especially if you are used to wearing bone straight hair like me without kinks, coils, napps, or waves (I have learned to love my natural texture) and I am not anxious anymore when the luscious, thick new growth starts peeking through the relaxed hair. :D

Thanks Jewell! I recently purchased Nexxus therappe & keraphix from ebay to use on my relaxed hair. If you have ever tried either of these how would you rec I use them during my transition? Do you mind telling me what products you use for moisture? Currently, finding moisture products has been a real challenge. I was natural for 2 years until Aug. of this year then got a relaxer and now I HATE it(experiencing extreme dryness, breakage, hairline issues, etc....) when I was natural I didn't have the extreme dryness/breakage....I just want my natural hair back.

My question to you is why did you relax again? Whatever that reason is, how do plan on dodging that bullet this time around? I also think that when your hair is away (braids, cornwors, weaves, or anything for a long period of time) youre less tempted to mess with you hair. Everytime I se emy hair I cut come of it off :) Thats why I need to braid it up now! What are you expecting of your natural hair? Do you plan on BC-ing? If so how much hair do you want before you BC?

I think this is a great way to transition and all and I believe you will be successful in growing out your hair. However, you have got learn the ablity to handle your natural hair. You have to get used to running your fingers through it, detangling it and facing the issues that come with transitioning/natural hair when they come. Unless, you plan on wearing your hair in these protective styles for the rest of you life then that is fine. OR wearing you hair like this until you BC, that also is fine...

If you don't understand what I'm saying, let me give you an example: I have a sister that has waistlength relaxed hair. She hasn't washed her own hair in YEARS. She's always depended on her stylist to do it every week or two weeks. So, as her hair grew it was totally impossible for her to even THINK of trying to wash her hair. Someone always has to wash it for her....She didn't grow with her hair. Do you see what I'm saying? With your hair in these protective styles you've named you won't be used to your natural hair. It could prove difficult to get used to, therefore the temptation to relax will be stronger....

There are other cute styles you can do with your transitioning hair besides these... :yep:

How about this, in between these protective styles try other styles that you see in albums .....these will give you practice and get you used to your hair. You can see and feel what products work best and which ones don't.

Ultimately, do what is best for you. I'm just trying to get you to look at this thing from different angles. Transitioning can be tough....
