This is why I really do love homemade products. I shop several companies and local shops who use products without the unnecessary chemicals. I spend more, use less, but feel great about it! At small shops where I know the sales people personally, and see them every Saturday morning at the farmer's market - I know that what they tell me is in my product is all that is in my product!

Just in case anyone is interested, I buy some of my personal care products from a company started by a woman whose sister was diagnosed with tumors in her breasts while in her 20's and she wanted to create products that were better for her. Here's a link to the company - Bella Lucce.

Why would we favor this. Speak for yourself. I don't think most of us knew there were high amounts of estrogen in these products.

Jasmin... that was a poorly written sentence. I think what OP was attempting to say is that shampoos that are generally marketed to and primarily purchased by African Americans contain high levels of estrogen.

You are right. The products that are best for us often cost the most, and are not necessarily options for many because of the price.

When I first told my mother about the (adverse) chemicals in products she wasn't hearing any of it. She said that the alternatives were bound to be too expensive for her. And granted, if I had an entire family to clean - I would not be buying $10 bars of soap - but Castile soaps, black soap, shea butter, and EO's work wonders and are relatively cheap.

This thread needs to be made a sticky seriously. While I don't have any health issues, the information I found here will encourage me to change some of my consumption habits. I thought my mom, who pretty much won't touch anything that isn't organic, was nuts but maybe she was right all along.
