Affirm Sensitive Scalp Relaxer...Lye or No lye, or do they have both?

Okay so I have been wondering about this question for a very long time and I don't know why i don't just ask my stylist but I have been getting an Affirm Sensitive Scalp relaxer since May 2006 and I absolutely love it!! So I was just wondering why am I noticing such a big difference in the health of hair, is it because of the lye or no lye? Prior to this I was using Ultra Sheen Mild No lye relaxer for years and my hair was so dry,( but I was also not taking care of it properly)...so if any of you ladies could chime in and help a sister out I would appreciate it. I first relaxed my hair with affirm sensitive scalp which is no lye. I loved it, but eventually it really dried my hair out. I started using affirm lye after about a year and have been gradually trimming out the no lye. With each trim my hair got better and better. Now with LHCF I don't have any more dryness problems.

affirm's sensitive scalp relaxer has conditioning agents which minimize damage which probably means your hair is stronger than when you were using the ultra sheen mid no lye.

I don't know the answer to your question just wanted to say that I use Affirm Sensitive Scalp relaxer also. I've been using it for about 12yrs and I love it!!! When I used Dark & Lovely mild no lye my hair would be so dry(I thought this was normal). I would then just put some pink oil moisturiser on my hair. I didn't know that I was making the problem worse. Thank god for LHCF. You are making very nice progress. Keep up the good work.

According to the Avlon website, the Sensitive Scalp Formula uses guandine hydroxide, which is typically used in no lye formulas. http://www.avlon.com/ssrelaxer.html
If the relaxer has to be mixed with an activator, then it is most likely no lye.

the lye forms come in Mild, normal, and resistant in either Sodium Hydroxide or Time Release sodium hydroxide

and for even more future reference, sensitive scalp relaxers consist of guanidine hydroxide or lithium hydroxide.

guanidine hydroxide is usually mixed together ( guanidine carbonate mixed with calcium hydroxide), and lithium is a no-mix.
