Affirm Relaxer

Has anyone had a bad experience with this relaxer? I have been experiencing a great deal of breakage and I can only contribute it to this relaxer. I have never experienced this kind of breakage. I deep condition every week and use protein when needed. I am getting a touch up tomorrow and I am thinking about going back to Optimum. It is down right scary how much breakage I am getting.

I'm getting a lot of breakage but I cannot say it is because of the Affirm, I had breakage before when I was using ORS and I switched to Affirm about 5 months ago.
Sorry I can't help...

I've been having breakage lately too, and I have been trying to figure out why. I never thought about if it's the perm or not. I have been using it for about 8 months. And I've used it before years ago; and I didn't have the breakage then that I have now. I think my hair is recovering from the protein/moisture imbalance that it suffered a couple months back.

Have you done your protein/moisture balance assessment? Have you been clarifying?

I agree with BlessedAngel, read that thread first. Are you stretching your relaxer? Because a lot of people who stretch experience breakage due to not being able to manange the demarcation line (where the two textures meet). If this is not the problem, I would not suggest relaxing hair that is breaking. Especially if you have no clue what the reason is. Do the strand assessment first.

Are you moisturizing? Also, you say that you are deep conditioning weekly, but be careful and mindful of whether those products do not have too much protein in them, because that can cause protein overload.

Tell us what your regimen is and what products you are using, and how you are styling, and we'll be able to help you better.

I used to use affirm, but I noticed that my hair was getting thinner while using it. Now I use Mizani senstive scalp and it seems to be doing better.
