Affirm 5 n 1

Hi Ladies!

I'm a relatively new member (August). I've gotten great advice from this site and I'm very pleased with my progress.

My mother purchased a huge bottle of Affirm's 5 n 1 Reconstructor and I'm excited to use it. The directions say to merely put it on after shampooing, put a plastic cap on and let it sit for 30 minutes.

My question is: Do you use heat with this?

TIA! :)

You can use heat, but its not necessary.

i use this every 3 months (when i get my relaxer) i use it with a cap and a warm towel. very effective - makes me feel 'secure' as such after a relaxer

I use it when I'm post 8 weeks. Leaves my hair feeling soft. I use it w/heat, under a dryer for 15 minutes.

I keep it for 30 mins no heat.

One of my favorite conditioners.

Ie used this conditioner for YEARS and I love it, I use it with heat for 15-20 minutes and I love the way it makes my hair feel soft and strong. I would definately use heat for the full benefit (strength as well as moisture). My opinion is that using this conditioner without heat is a waste. Ive done it both ways and get the best results with heat.

Do you use a moisturizing conditioner after this reconstructor or does this have it built inside? I know it is called 5 in 1 because it does five things. I am going back to using this after I finish up with some of my other conditoners. :D

Ladies,

Thank you so much for your advice! I tried it with heat for 20 minutes and it left my 9 weeks post relaxer hair soft and shiny. I have a 32oz bottle so I'm anxious to see what great results I will get with it.

After your treatment, do you just rinse it out or do you shampoo or condition again?

Get ready for a chemistry lesson....here are the ingredients:

Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Urea, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Mineral Oil, Dimethicone, C12-15 Alkyl Lactate, Dimethyl Stearamine, PEG-3 Tallow Aminopropylamine, Citric Acid, Polyquaternium-6, Polyquaternium-11, Isostearyl Ethylimidonium Ethosulfate, Polyacrylamide, Ceteth-20, Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG-100 Stearate, Stearalkonium Chloride, imidazolidinyl Urea, Perfume, Terasodium EDTA, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, FD&C Yellow #5...

Sounds a little scary but the primary purpose for this is to be used right after a relaxer even though it is also recommended for salon treatments....

Here's what it says on the Avlon site:

Affirm 5 in 1 Reconstructor (STEP 3) is a unique blend of micro and macrofibrous conditioners that is applied immediately after rinsing the relaxer from the hair and before the Normalizing Shampoo. • While substantive conditioners are deposited well within the hair fiber, the hair is restored to its normal pH of the hair. (NOTE: Deep conditioning is still possible at this time because the upper mantle of the hair is still alkaline--approximate pH of 10.0--and the cuticles remain partially open). • For use on damaged, fine or limp hair. Also recommended as a deep penetrating moisturizing conditioner for regular salon reconstructive treatment services.
• Available in Gallon, 32 fl. oz. (pictured) and 16 fl. oz. sizes.
Benefits
• Re-aligns, seals and smooths cuticles.
• Minimizes porosity and restores hair to normal pH.
• Electronically repairs damaged areas within and along hairshaft by attachingto negatively charged (damaged) areas.
• Minimizes breakage and shedding.
• Minimizes porosity and smooths cuticles.
• Detangles hair.
• Imparts body and volume to fine, limp hair while adding shine.

I use it after rinsing my relaxer and when I need a protein reconstructor. Love it!! It moisturizes and detangles while strengthening my hair. Definite staple. :yep:
