I was thinking about getting an acid perm. More specifically, a Quantum perm. I'm kinda tired of my hair. I was looking them up tonight to see exactly what they are and what they do and it sounded good to me! I don't know. Maybe I need a nap.....

Has anyone here ever had a perm?

I think you need a nap, lol. Seriously though although Quantum is alkaline based I assumed it wasnt strong enough to break down the bonds on our hair. (Note: I have no factual basis for this assumption.) Mari Marrow who used to be on that show Oh Drama had a perm. Silliness aside I hope I helped some. :)

:lachen: I know, I know!!! I always stay up passed my bedtime!!!!

Quantum is actually an acid perm. It's the perm a few weave wearers used to make their Indian remy more managable and curly. I just want a different look. I was thinking of buying one and doing a strand test to see what it'd look like on my hair. Even though, I don't have a curl pattern, whites who use perms don't have one either, so I wonder would it give me one. I also know that their hair is waaaaayyyy different than my hair...........

Hmmmm.......I'm bored!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For real though, I know quite a few on here texturize. Has anyone used a perm?

I only know one black girl who had gotten a spiral perm. Her hair was a mess. Dry as a desert and completely damaged. Even years later, her hair still looked bad. It was as if it never recovered. So I have to say I wouldn't advise you trying an acid/alkaline perm. :nono:

i"m interested in getting an acid texturizing perm. It sounds caustic but it's hardly as caustic as a lye relaxer. Don't Go shopping Without Me, author, Paula Begoun suggests this is the best thing for our hair esp since it has a lower PH and is for fine fragile hair which is OUR hair. Everyone makes the mistake of assuming our hair is tough, rough and can NEEDS harsh chemical when nothing could be further from the truth. I'm currently researching one n only low ammonia, low ph texturizing perm. Anyone tried it?

I noticed this is an old thread. Paula B might not know what she's talking about. Thio perms for example are acidic but if your hair is type 4 they may or may not work for you. Our hair might seem "fragile" because it doesn't like a lot of manipulation but it's also strong in that it isn't easy to break the natural pattern using chemicals.
