A word about wedding RSVP

MizAvalon

Not married yet. Actually getting married next week on the 22nd in the Bahamas!

In regards to rsvp, I ended up calling to follow up with a lot of people. For some people I just assumed that they weren't coming if no response because it's a destination wedding.

Oddly enough, I had someone rsvp as coming just yesterday. Mind you my wedding is on monday in the Bahamas and everyone is arriving there Friday/Saturday. I was a bit pissed about the late rsvp because I had to get more favors, more chair covers, rearrange my seating chart, etc. all last minute. But I since this person had already paid for their hotel and plane ticket I just had to allow them to come despite the extremely late response.

I will never understand the ability to make flight (and hotel) arrangements yet NOT be bothered to let your host know that you are coming! My cousin came from England and we only found out because a package she ordered came to the house (addressed to her). One day later she would have been sleeping at the airport because we were going out of town!

Anywho - have a wonderful wedding celebration! Sending fairy dust that all will go well on your big day and that your marriage will be blessed. What is done is done - let it go and enjoy yourself and time with your family. No one that matters will notice or care if any of the details don't go as planned.

For others that asked how to deal with non responders - it really depends. If its a full sit down then you suck it up and get help from family to call and get the numbers. You do not want to be in the position of having to ante up extra $$$ because xx people showed up on the day of. Most venues will not take a credit card the day of (or check you can cancel before they can deposit) they want cash.

I would not however change seating plans for dropins. If it was that important to sit with Cousin Mabel then they should have rsvp'd in advance. Remember there may be a few people that did rsvp but are unable to come (last minute emergencies) so seat any non responders in those spots first then get the overflow table. So yes party of 3 may end up seating at 2 or 3 different tables but that is on them. This is where having a planner (that's not a guest) comes in handy. If I called you multiple times trying to get an rsvp and you just show up you can't play stupid as if an answer was not requested. Go on and sulk all you want McDonald's is up the block but you can come on back for dessert in an hour :lachen:(yes I've done this with couples permission).

I was just reminded of this thread due to a family reunion that I helped to plan and attended a couple of weeks ago.

29 people sent in money and an RSVP for one optional event ($40 per person dinner cruise) but only 6 people paid for the reunion dues including me and DH. So at least 27 people (most from out of town) paid for flights and hotels without ever letting the reunion planners know they were coming.

I don't get why it's so taxing to RSVP for an event especially after booking a flight and hotel.
