A Question For Those Who Use Steam

Hola ladies,

I'm curious, how long does the benefit of a steam treatment last before another is necessary?

How long does a treatment take? (30 minutes?)

Can I set my style before the treatment, or is it better to do it after?

My hair is healthy but it's dry despite my tender loving care, so I'm looking at steam as a solution. I'm just afraid of being stuck under a piece of machinery several times a week :ohwell:

Thanks for any responses.

I do my steam treatments every three to four weeks. I stay under for about 20 - 25 minutes. Because I do CO washes a few times a week, my hair is not as dry as it used to be so I don't do the steam treatments as frequently as I initially did (once every two weeks).

The steam treatments are done w/conditioner in your hair to help infuse the moisture & conditioner into the hair.

3 - 4 weeks!
Not bad at all, I thought for sure someone was going to say something like every 3 days. Maybe I SHOULD invest in a machine.

Thanks for your reply ;)

LaNecia - let me bug you one more time - I had one other question:
Do you use a hair dryer? I have a Ion soft bonnet and my concern is that if I use this after steaming that I will rob myself of the benefit of using steam in the first place. Any opinion on this?
Thanks again..

I do the steam treatment everytime I go to the gym and use their steam room, so thats about once a week (normally).

I sit in there for about 20mins or as long as I can take it (my hair is also loaded with conditioner or oil)

I don't style my hair before or after my steam treatment, but if I did style my hair it would be after the treatment.

What a wealth of hair you have Netta...gorgeous
Did you notice a tremendous difference in your hair when you started this routine? I have several different textures on my head and the part in the top-middle back of my hair is the dryest and most resistant to any treatment I use. If I can get this part to "act nice" my hair care routine would be complete.

I steam my hair on a weekly basis with a conditioner of my choice(protein/moisture) for 40 minutes. I think it will be better to style your hair after you steam as you have to wash off the conditioner from your hair.
I think 15 minutes minimum is sufficient (depending on your conditioner as well)

Thanks girl! I did notice the difference the first time I tried it I just placed some color in my hair so my hair was super dry, after the conditioning/steam treatment my hair felt like ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so soft! Everysince then, the steam treatment has been a keeper for me, my hair feels more moisturised.

Sorry for the late response. Yes I have a hair dryer but usually I air dry my hair so I don't know if this would counter the effects of the steam treatment or not.

Oh know problem :) . I went ahead and took the plunge, so it should be here in a few days. My hair is sighing with relief already...

If it doesn't work out for me, I'll just post it here for someone else who wants to try it.

Thanks again to everybody who responded.
