If you are having trouble laying your edges down, but don't want to use gel, then try Matrix Extreme Styling Creme. It comes in an orange tube and Sally's has a generic. It will smooth your hair, lightly moisturize it, and hold it down. It is a creme and it doesn't have any alcohol. I layer mine with HE LTR leave-in or Profectiv and then put that on. Also, it melts right into your hair.
