A heat lover's confession - DC mix rave! (LOTS O' PICS)

Ok guys so this is the 4th time I've tried this, and got the same results, so I had to share.

So I was switching up my reggie. I'm on a serious growth/retention mission, and I felt it was time to make some changes. I've decided to completely switch over to sulfate free shampoos. After seeing the infomercial AGAIN and drooling, I decided that I needed to get my hands on some Wen. However, I'm not patient, and don't like waiting for orders to come in. So I went to the next best thing, Sally's Hair One (Olive Oil flavor). I've washed my hair with this SEVERAL times this week and it's fabulous. It has left my hair incredibly moist, and gives my scalp a nice tingle.

I've reintroduced mega tek to my reggie after taking a break (because I ran out, and remember I HATE ordering stuff). So I've been applying it to my scalp straight, and when I wash I let it set on my hair for 5 mins in the shower. I only started this though since the beginning of this week.

Now the good part.... I picked up some extra virgin coconut oil from Whole Foods. I applied my Silk Elements Mega Silk Olive Oil Intense Conditioner all over my hair (I saturate my hair with it). Afterwards, I coated my entire head with the coconut oil, put on a shower cap, and sat under the dryer for 20 mins. When I rinsed my hair out it was soft and smooth like butter! :lick: I didn't even have to use much of a leave in because my hair was that smooth. My hair hasn't been this moisturized in ages. Today I put just a small amount of Hair One back in, mostly on the ends, and I really like it as a leave in too.

For me moisture is uber important since I heat style my hair (my preferred method is to air dry to 85% dry -> blow dry on a low setting -> flat iron on a low setting). This for me is now a major keeper. What's even more exciting is that my ends are sooo healthy and I'm still able to retain length.

Ok I Know, I know... :needpics:

I think I may actually see APL finally by the end of the year. Particularly now that I'm strict about NOT TRIMMING.

YAY!!...your hair looks :lick:. i might have to try that Hair One, so its a deep conditioner?...is it supposed to be Like wen?

wow! Your hair looks great-- healthy, shiny and beautiful! I admire that you love heat but use it in a way that works for you and your hair; I hope to get to that point someday! Beautiful pics, thank you for sharing! =D

I'm loving it girl. :love3::love3:
I think you're right, you'll be APL in no time if you keep it up. I can't believe the difference in growth for 1 month!! That is without a touch-up, right? So there is probably even more shrinkage.

It looks very moisturized! I love that SE Intense Treatment. I haven't tried it with coconut oil yet, but I just might...

You def look like you are on your way to APL. :)

Your hair looks great, miss!:yep: Go 'head with your bad self! I hope this will work for my transitioning hair. I will not be leaving my house with wet hair this winter.:nono:

Thanks! Hair One is Sally's version of the Wen line. They have 4 different ones, tailored for different types of hair (color treated, dry hair, and two others). I always choose formulas for dry hair. The directions say after you wash with it, you can put more into the hair and let it sit on the hair for about 3-5 mins as a conditioner. I've never DC'd with it.

Your hair looks great. Are you relaxed? If so, what relaxer do you use?

Thanks! I am relaxed. But I don't BONE straight relax since my hair still has a lot of texture to it when air dried. It's about 80% straight. I use Silk Elements Olive Oil Relaxer in Mild. I process for a total of 25-30 mins from application to smooth out.

Thanks Reecie, yes this is after one month and no touch up, and my roots are still a tiny bit curly toward the scalp because I never fully straighten them when I flat iron. I think I intend to, but I'm too inept to do it, lol. So when I put my fingers on my scalp I feel the beginnings of little tiny spirals in some parts, lol.:look:

Thanks DD, yes this is definitely the bees knees! Wet hair in the winter for me is sore throat city. I don't know why I stopped using coconut oil in my regimen. It's definitely back and here to stay. The benefits of it are amazing. I have A LOT of new growth (up to an inch or more in some sections) and this regimen has helped to tame it. I will be stretching for 4 mons.

I've been really inspired by Oprah, not that I'm using heat everyday, but I try to use it safely and focus on maintaining my hair's health despite heat usage. Addressing the natural dryness issues of normal type 4 hair has helped a lot. DC-ing often (and protein for my relaxed strands), gentle cleansers, and moisturizing daily have helped lots.

Good for you Foxie...I love the MegaSilk line....All this time I have been using the Hair One...I still havent tried it as a leave in...hahahaha..

Your hair is looking good

Thanks Traycee, actually my last push to buy was reading about it on your Blog. So thanks! It's great as a leave-in. Normally I use a liquid/spray leave-in and a drop of Salerm 21. Well it seems like Hair one will replace the Salerm for sure (I find Salerm a little heavy sometimes).

Your hair looks great! I'm an avid Wen fig user I use it as a DC, leave-in, cowash etc..love it. I may give the hair one a try in the future.

How did Oprah inspire you? I'm open to tips.
I also plan on adding coconut oil to my regimen.
