A hair story !!!With lots of pics

I`ve learned and achieved a lot since being on this board. Honestly, when i think about how i use to treat my hair,I cringe.I went from this in Jan 2005.

But i think over the years, i focused so much on getting my hair to APL, that i neglected the overall health of my hair. It took me 2 ½ years to get to this length. I`m 6`2 , so when it started to break and thin out, i decided that i wasn't going to cut because it would take forever to grow back.Eight months later and though i had lots of growth my hair was almost the same length. This is June 2008

Pictures are so funny sometimes.....my hair actually looks pretty good, but the hair at my nape was neck length and breaking + my ends were see through. Every time i touched it, i would pull away with hair in my hands.I had enough at this point and started to slowly cut it. 2009 was a scissor happy year for me. I did about 4 cuts until i ended up with a blunt cut at chin length in Aug09

It was at this point that i fell in love with my hair. My hair had never felt or looked so health and thick. It continued to be healthy and thick. By Dec 09

So now i have again restarted my journey to APL and maybe one day BSL. Hopefully it will take me 1½ years to get to my goal this time around.

You'll probably get to BSL by the end of the year now that you know how to take care of your hair which is lovely btw.

You're so brave to cut your see through ends. I'm holding on to mine for now. My next relaxer will be in mid-April, and I think I'm going to let them go then. We'll see how my hair looks overall.

Your hair looks gorgeous in that last photo!!! I went through the same thing back in 2005. My hair broke off at my nape too. I just cut it into a chin length bob, and I was soooooo in love with my hair!

I'd rather have shorter healthy hair, that long scraggley (my made up word) hair any day!:yep:

Your hair looks great. It's hard to cut your hair sometimes, but that did it a world of good. Look how much thickness you've gained! From here APL and BSL will be a breeze for you.

Wow thanks for sharing your story
Its very inspirational for those of us who find it hard to let go even when that's the best thing to do

Good for you on getting rid of see through ends. I would so stubbornly hang on to them. Getting a blunt cut and starting over always pays off. Your hair looked great before honestly; I thought your ends were fine but now it looks even better!!!!!!

Now that is what I call progress....going from the blunt cut to SL from '09 to now....the pics are just amazing!!!:grin::grin:

You did the right thing. You are 100% correct in starting off with healthy hair and not holding onto damaged hair simply for length. My sister does this..and has had approximately the same length for 5 years now...and the section that usually breaks is broken - AGAIN!! *huge sigh* Every time she length checks, her beautician has to cut her hair...and she is not one of those scissor happy people. Her hair needs a cut after she "grows" it. :wallbash: She doesn't retain at all!

I would show her your pics, but she'll probably feel bad about her progress....but I will find a way to encourage her to go for health over length because she is getting nowhere so far. Thanks for sharing. This is very helpful!

Your hair looks great! Look how much it has grown in a short period of time.
You will be APL in no time.

Thank you ladies for all your kind words. It's funny though, sometimes i think that if i hadn't made it to APL that i wouldn't have had the courage to cut it. Now that i have cut it , i know for a fact that i will be at APL again.
Many of us are obsessed with length and i like me, blinded by it. But if you thrive for healthy hair, you will always get length.
