A Great Tip before conditioning your hair

I was at the store restocking on my skin care (Dr. Hauschka)when I thought about trying their hair care line. The instruction on the conditioner said to lather hair leave on for a few min then rinse. It proceeds to say if hair feels hard...that could be a result of hard water, so rinse hair with apple cider vinger...then lather with conditoner again. It all made sense at that point /images/graemlins/smile.gif why sometimes my conditioner does not do a damm thing. I went home and tried it...this is the only way I will condition my hair. My hair came out so great. I felt the instant difference, I also used less of my conditioner...my hair absorbs it well.

Hi Imogin3,

Thanks for the tip. /images/graemlins/wink.gif Many of us on this forum can't imagine having a routine without the use of the good ole apple cider vinegar rinse. /images/graemlins/grin.gif It definately does wonders for shine, sealing in the cuticle and making the conditioners work well. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Do you have to dilute it or just use it straight? It doesn't dry the hair? I would imagine vinegar to do that.

I do this everytime I shampoo...mainly because I don't like the do the vinegar rinse afterwards(I prefer to use plain distilled water for my final rinse).

Pandora;

I think "apple cider only"...can't you find apple cider? it should be at any supermarket or health food store

Caramela;

It is 2tablespoon apple cider to 8ouz water. It is not drying at all...your hair looks really shinny and feel great. Remember this is done before you use your conditioner, I find that I get all that my conditioner has to offer this way, and I use alot less of it too.

Hi Caramela,

I had to say...I missed you making posts! /images/graemlins/smile.gif I had paged you and Valley Girl. As far as deluting goes it depends.

If I buy a gallon of apple cider vinegar from Randalls, I don't delute because it's already deluted. The gallon costs about $3.00. If I buy Organic Apple Cider Vinegar then I delute it. I use it right after I finish shampooing and it takes out any other shampoo that may have been left, and makes my conditioners work better. If you have oily hair you use it after your conditioner.

No, it doesn't dry the hair out at all it actually softens my hair. The apples contain malic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid) that works as an exfoliant and emollient to lift dandruff away from the scalp. It 's also moisturizing

Hi Imogin!
So do you put the apple cider vinegar on your hair and then rinse it out with water, or do you just leave it in and then put the conditioner on afterwards? /images/graemlins/confused.gif sorry if that (my question) didn't make sense.

Thanks for the tip. When I was younger I would condition for a few minutes, rinse the conditioner out, and condition a second time and my hair did well. I forgot about that.

I never thought about conditioning, rinsing with vinegar, and conditioning again instead of just rinsing with vinegar and conditioning.

Leigh;

Do you do the condition only washes? otherwise...you shampoo, rinse with apple cider vinger, then condition.

Hairfanatic, sorry I didn't get your page /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif was there something u want to ask me? PM me, I'll be happy to respond. I'd stop posting so much on the hairboard b/c I found myself get very obsessed w/hair and needed to take a breather! But I am back, out of lurke mode! Good to see everybody, wow, there are a bunch of newbies, huh? Our little hair fam is growing.

The Acid in ACV also re-aligns the cuticles - flattening them and creating shine. I forgot how much I love this - but started it again recently.

Thanks for the ACV tips. I know this topic has been discussed before but I'm going to try this method out now.

Caramela, great to see you back in full swing!! /images/graemlins/wave.gif

I have never heard or thought to use Apple Cider Vinegar on my hair. Could you clarify your procedure when using the Apple Cider Vinegar. I want to try it this weekend. It has been really cold this winter and I willing to try anything to keep my hair dry. Thanks for the suggestion!

I think I spelled your name wrong in the post. But I didn't want anything really...when I don't see the ladies that I have grown with and from the old forum like you, Jade, Allandra, Henrilou, Valleygirl, Pebbles, LondonDiva, Envizion, Sweetcocoa, Notsomebody, Mschichi and others (sorry ladies if I forgot some of you /images/graemlins/frown.gif, just thinking off the top of my head) /images/graemlins/smile.gif, then I miss you ladies! /images/graemlins/smile.gif And...I miss all the newbies too! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes, it is a LOT of newbies, I can barely keep up. I definately know what you mean about the obsessed hair. I think now for me, I just enjoy reading and responding. Since I cut my hair off, I don't even give it a second thought. I have now become obsessed with finding natural shampoos oppose to my hair. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sorry ladies to get off the subject...IT'S BACK TO APPLE CIDER VINEGAR /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Okay yall. You've convinced me to pull this out of my arsenal. /images/graemlins/smile.gif I will be trying this method tonight!! /images/graemlins/grin.gif again!

You mix it with the water(I use distilled cause I have very hard water). You might have to find a mixture that works for you. For me it's 1/4 cup to 1 quart of water. Then I apply the conditioner(without rinsing again) then do a deep conditioning followed by a final rinse of distilled water(you don't have to use distilled water...that is my preference).

Hi Sweetcocoa,

Do you let the ACV set for a while? or do you immediately follow with the conditioner? I've been rinsing with the ACV, letting it set for a while (1-2 min.), rinsing it out, and then putting in my conditioner. Is it less effective this way? Thanks in advance for your help!

I don't. But if there is a benefit to letting it soak I hope someone will post it so I can try it. /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif
