This is something i read in the Amazing wellness magazine from Vitamin Shoppe ( they were giving them out for free, i hope)
Chocolate, that rich reviled and revered indulgence that has been the bane of many a diet and may actually be a health food- at least the dark ( at least 70-80% cocoa) kind. Pure unadulterated cocoa has more antioxidant flavonoids than any food tested so far, including blueberries, red wine, ans black and green teas. In fact, it has up to four times the quantity of antioxidants found in green tea. It is one of the number one sources of magnesium of any food, and is high in sulfur and EFA's including oleic acid, also found in olive oil. Here are some intriguing research findings:
1.) HEART HEALTH - helps dilate blood vessels, reduce blood clotting improve circulation, regulate heart beat, lower LDL cholesterol and reduce the risk of stroke and heart attacks and is also an anti-inflammatory.
2.) BRAIN HEALTH- by increasing the levels of specific neurotransmitters in our brains, cacoa promotes positive outlook, facilitates rejuvenation, and simply helps us feel good and improves focus and alertness.
3.) SKIN HEALTH- dark chocolate can combat UV radiation damage from the sun that contributes to premature aging of the skin
