...to try since I'm thinking about buying one. She does not use hers anymore cause she owns a Chi and likes the Chi better. But she said she thought the Maxi might do good on my hair "cause it's so thick". The funny thing is, she recommended I use the plate with the teeth, but in the beginning she was saying the teeth tore her hair out (not to mention she also said the maxi has a "burnt" smell to it)

To top it off she said there is some product build up on it but she did her best to clean it off. I can see on the plate with the teeth that there is a tiny bit of what appears to be rust  I was looking forward to having a "free trial" with it but I don't think it's worth the risk  :perplexed :ohwell:

That rusty looking stuff on there scares me....

i have a maxiglide and the only time it tears my hair out is if i try to use the teeth as a detangler, inadvertantly closing the 2 sides of the iron together and/or flatironing too much hair at once, so it might be technique. those pins are only there to help guide the hair as you iron down. (others have had similar problems as yours though so i dunno).

as far as the rust stuff is concerned.

to clean mine, i take an old toothbrush with a tiny bit of dish detergent on it and just brush around the pins, rinse and dry really well then use.

it may just be product buildup on the pins so try cleaning it first.

Sounds like she didn't clean the product build up off it. The maxiglide doesn't get rusty unless you leave it soaking in water and you are not supposed to do that.:ohwell:

Are NOT suppose to close the iron once it is on the hair? Because that's what I've been doing

NOOOOOOO

you don't close it at least not the point of not being able to slide your hair through it easily. the pins only guide your hair through. it's not like the chi's or other irons in that respect.

my maxi is never tightly closed.

i have the dvd - i could prolly make a copy and send to you if you'd like.

I have never had rust on my maxiglide. She did something wrong or stored it wrong. Don't squeeze hard with the teeth. This is the problem many people make.

When I do use my maxiglide, I do not use the teeth plate. I use the flat plate because no matter how much I comb/untangle my hair, hair still comes out...I also was complaining about the burnt smell but what I learned was if you use a good heat protectant you will not smell the burnt smell and also if you flatiron on clean hair you will not smell burnt hair:) I was complaining about my maxilglide a while back buy now I love my irons (when I do use them):)
