A brief reality check

I was in class today, and as I was staring out the open front door (don't understand factoring trinomials--so if anyone wants to help... :p ), and a class must have let out, because a group of students were talking and walking past the classroom.

I saw a black woman, maybe in her mid 40s, and her hair was just in wisps here and there around the sides of her head-- and the crown area was smooth and bare. :(

I don't know if she's had chemo and/or radiation for cancer treatments, or if she had some form of alopecia or other issue, but she had basically no hair. :(

I had to take a moment to thank the Almighty for having any hair at all to debate about on LHCF. It was a bit of a reality check.

ITA, Amen!! I think we all need a reality check once in a while to really appreciate what we have.

I hear you on that! I was in the store the other day and I saw a young white woman who appeared to have alopecia--that was definitely a reality check for me. Sometimes I catch myself looking at my hair daily, hoping for some more growth. Instead I should focus on the health, and how blessed I am to have any hair at all!

I agree, i see girls and women out there with so little hair, and it makes me feel selfish and blessed all at once. We should always be thankful for what we have, becaue there is always some one else who has less.

I've never had a problem growing hair or with length (info from this site has just showed me that there is always room for improvement). I've had the spectrum of hairstyles: locks down to my butt and when Bobby Brown had his Gumby cut back in the day, so did I. Recently, I've been wearing my hair very low - basically a shadow on my scalp and my mantra was "I don't want to take care of any hair" til I saw a mother and her daughter suffering from alopecia on an episode of Home Delivery. They were so overjoyed for their wigs and here I was taking my blessing from God for granted. So, now I'm growing some hair and appreciating it though I have no hair goals except it being healthy.

this is so true...I see girls all the time like that, and I'm like, I gotta be thankful for what I have!
Even when I encounter hair "challenges" (i.e. breakage, shedding etc etc), I count it all joy because it's healthy & growin and somebody would love to have my head!!
