$65 for $3.99 Relaxer!

I Have to learn how to do my own relaxer...I got a relaxer yesterday Qp Elasta for $65 which I have always paid and the relaxer does really good in my hair....but had my stlylist switch to Syntonics in the past because it was more of a professional relaxer and I felt if I'm gonna pay that much I didn't want anything I can go and pick up myself...but the QP actully does better on my hair so we went back to doing the QP yesterday...anyway I went to Sally's today and saw the QP there for $3.99 and I was just too out done and the tub cost $18.49...I have to learn how to do this on my own...and I got a chemical burn .

Yup! I noticed the same thing too. I guess your paying them for their time and effort of applying the relaxer and then washing and rollersetting/blowdrying your hair. I like the way I wash and rollerset my own hair, I just need help in applying relaxer to the back of my head, which like you, means I need to pay $65 for.

she charge u for everything DANG!!!! I SPENT $5.99 for mines in MEMPHIS TENN AREA .
last month was the first i used it ,
the lady in the store told me stay away from MOTION RELAXERS

True! And when I think back on all of the beauticians who pulled the relaxer from root to tip OR the beautician who just slapped the relaxer on my hair without rhyme or reason...makes me shudder.

I've been relaxing my own hair successfully since 1992 when I joined the military. I'm sure I've saved tens of thousands of dollars between then on now since eliminating my need for hair stylists, and my hair had never grown past my earlobes until I stopped going to them (longest I've ever been was shoulders...and I'm on my way back there and beyond!). Yea I been looking at some diy relaxer youtube videos and I think I will give it a try next time and since I don't relax to get it bone straight I think I should be ok...and in the back I will just feel my way and I won't smooth it at all.

I agree with the others. If you DIY relax, practice does make perfect I was underprocessed in some spots, but I was usually pleased.

Some advice, practice applying conditioner on your head the way you would apply a relaxer (with your hand or a color/relaxer brush). Also, I hear many women have successfully relaxed their hair in 2 or 3 parts. I personally don't like the idea of washing out relaxer when all of my hair isn't relaxed yet; I don't want to wet the non-relaxed side. LondonDiva had a great tutorial in her fotki. I don't know if it's still up, but you can always send her a PM.

It's usually never the product that is expensive, it's the labor. We are paying to be pampered and having a service done for us. I have no doubt the women on LHCF could build a house from the ground up if given the time to do a little research

I love Motions Relaxers, different strokes for different folks though.

I take my 5.99 relaxer to my stylist and happy fork over the $$$ for my relaxer.
