4lb tub of relaxer

For those of you who self relax and buy the 4lb tub of relaxer (like the Affirm). What do you do with the rest? From what I understand it has a 2 year shelf life so do you keep it until 2 years are up then throw it away? I'm thinking of buying some and seeing if anybody wants to share the cost maybe? Hmmmm!

I store mine in the cellar (basement) or a refrigderator, i've had my tub for 8 months now and it is still effective.

i remember someone here wrote an email to Avlon, they said that it doesn't have an actual expiry date but it was best to use before 3 years.

Well i've finished up a lot of my relaxer,, i usually share mine with my sisters or friend so i'll probably finsh it way before then. Btw, i love your texturized hair, i can't wait to see pictures of it flat-ironed to your waist.

your not supposed to save any really.. i guess if you were going to use the rest the next day (like in a salon), then it'd be okay. but the chemicals start to get too strong if you use some relaxer, then use it again next time your ready for a perm.

Yeah, Mocha1111 posted (she contacted Avlon), that there is no required expiration date for relaxers. However, to assure optimum performance, they recommend that the product is used within 3 yrs of production.

I believe this applies to relaxers you have to "mix". You must discard the remains once it's been mixed, but it's okay for the perms in the tub.

Thanks ladies....so within 3 years. Ok..that works. Even if I throw it away it's still cheaper than paying $70 at the salon. So within 3 years of the production date? So it's not within 3 years of opening it?

I've been great. I'm actually LOVING my hair out. Hasn't happened in YEARS..actually EVER...lol. I have had my hair out for 7 weeks ...longest I have ever been out of braids in over 5 years...lol. How have you been? /images/graemlins/smile.gif
