Hey

I am just @ witts end with this unruly hair. I have tried using 1 by 2 products consistently, and still no great results. I had an itch attack the other day, bc I wanted to use some of the many shampoos I have. Giovanni sometimes makes my hair to hard, but it works I guess. Basically I need some direction here. Its growing but omg its so not sexy. Any suggestions? Its just mega dry!!! And I can't take it anymore. Until next time..

Your hair porosity level might be high, when it's high your hair can't retain moisturize....my hair's porosity level is high....it's easy to fix....you have to do a monthly protein treatments like put an egg in your fav conditioner and let it sit for 1 hr(no heat), and then rinse with cold water....or you could use Roux Porosity Control Shampoo and Conditioner, I have them both(haven't tried yet, but I will this week).....I use extra virgin coconut oil and Hydratherma Nautrals Daily Moisturizing Growth Lotion....now if these don't work then I don't know what else to do or say.....But get a 2nd opinion just in case!!! HTH!

How long and how consistently have you been adding moisture to your hair? Are you using any products that 'seal' your hair? How often are you clarifying? How often are you DC'ing? Are you doing any steam treatments/overnight treatments?

It took my hair about 9 months to get truly moisturized, and that was 9 months of a LOT of moisture.

Doesnt Apple Cider Vinegar control porosity too? I swear I read that somewhere.
If you havent done an ACV rinse, I would try that before the roux.
When I tried Roux it made about a gazillion hairs fall out of my head and was tangled for no dang reason.

What two products have you tried? Sometimes it could be the product that isn't working for you. Just because others might like it, doesn't mean you will too.

Check your DC. I notice when I used a better DC the need to moisturize was slim to none. My DC (GVP Matrix balm) is so good I only use coconut oil during the week.

I have used olive oil replenishing pack, its great. But I only did that twice.
But for a dc , I just leave the nexuss conditioner in and air dry.

I have used ors carrot oil. And sea with qp mango shea butter. I have used some homemade prduct called superlonghair ... It has all those ingredients. Its makes my hair feel dry but my scalp doesn't itch and I sealed with miracle 8 ginseng oil and other nutrients...

So I washed with cream of nature.. Yuck. And I let air dry w/o conditioner this time, and let air dry. Then I put ors shea butter scalp and hair therapy and then sealed with qp.

So now 2 days later scalp feels horrible and hair is rugged..:(

4B hair checking in. Roux Porosity Control was heaven sent to me. I just used the conditioner that comes in the lil sample size bottle. I sometimes mix it with my deep conditioners (pantene mask or lekair). Determine whether or not the moisturizers you use are better applied to damp hair or dry hair. For me, the best that has worked is on damp hair. A tip I got from a fellow LHCFer was to see if one of the first few ingredients contained water and if it did then it's best affective on damp hair. For me this has been Giovanni Direct Leave-In, Infusium 23 (original formula) and Surge (original formula). I sometimes leave in some of my conditioner from when I do my regular wash such as Suave Tropical Coconut. When I do my in btwn moisturizing on dry hair I use QP Mango Butter.

No matter what I use, sealing it with castor oil keeps my hair soft up to a week.

Another thing that I do is, apply my moisturizer in sections instead of just slapping it on the surface/top of my hair (as if it's in a bun or ponytail) making sure the all hairs are getting hit with something.

HTH!

Have you tried pre-poo'ing with Aubrey Organics Honey Suckle Rose? I do this 1 to 2x's a week for half hour with bonnet dryer or overnight. It has worked well with providing moisture to my 4a/b hair.

4b head here - actually 4zzzz. And I was seriously considering pulling a Britney a few days ago b/c my hair was so damn dry :lachen: Here's a routine I discovered literally over this past weekend and my hair now feels wonderful:

DC w/ LustraSilk Shea Butter Cholesterol on dry hair
Wash w/ Hair One Olive Oil
Follow by Aveda Damage Remedy mask (5 mins)
Towel Dry
Add a little Hair One as a leave in
"Seal" w/ Sabino Moisture Block

Then let your hair dry how you normally would. I personally brush my hair back into a pony tail and then cover it w/ a silk scarf so that it dries straight. Since it was time for a length check I also flatironed today and my hair feels amazing and looks really vibrant too (I find that my hair always feels its best after I use heat - in moderation of course). The way my hair feels now, I can't imagine it drying out anytime soon :yep:

Good Luck & feel free to PM me if you have any questions :)

If you are DC'ing and Moisturizing and the dry hair issue still persists. You just may have an issue with the porosity of your hair. I have coarse 4b/c hair. I highly recommend Porosity Control Conditioner. I use it after I shampoo (right before I DC) or I add 2-3 tsp of it in my DC. Keep doing this for about a month and you should see a difference. You can also do an ACV rinse after you DC to close the hair cuticles leaving your hair moisturized and smooth.
