Hey ladies, I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my hair. Ok, I cowashed this morning and raked a little conditioner in and let my hair dry. Excuse the shape, I cut it myself when I chopped back in November :look:

Anyway, my hair is pretty coily except for the very front and a portion of the edges. Is anyone else dealing with that? Am I doing something wrong? What products are you using to help those problem areas like that?

It could be that your hair texture is different in that section and needs extra moisture.

When I first went natural I noticed the same issue with the front hairline being frizzier. For me, the more moisturized that part of my hair is, the more it curls properly and lays down.

I thought about that but then wondered how I could possibly add more moisture when I already co wash so much. I'm befuddled

Do you think you need to add more conditioner to that section. You stated you raked a little. Perhaps you need more conditioner there or a heavier conditioner.

It could be a porosity issue. Maybe your hair is more porous in that section and the key is to keep the moisture you put there from leaving your hair so quickly. I've recently tried aloe vera juice as a sealant and my hair seems to like it. Plus, it's lighter than using oil (though I do like oils too).

I've also had great success with using Roux Porosity Control shampoo. It helps my cuticles to close and for my curls to act more as they should (curling up properly). I've used that product for years (from even before I was natural).

Ok, I'm going to step up my moisture game but only on those small areas for a few weeks and see what happens. Great advice!

Maybe that may be it too and that goes back to moisture. I did only put a little in that section

Sorry I can't multi quote on the lhcf app

Semo I think you may be on to something about the porosity. I'm going to play with that a little.

Nikki you may be right too. Perhaps it's just a difference in texture, nothing more. I will be able to know for sure when I try a few things.

Maybe your hair is not wet enough for the product you're using. Some products don't work well or at all on dry or damp hair.

Those parts of my hair dry the fastest along with a small portion in my crown. I will keep this in mind. Maybe I need to re wet or apply product there first going forward

My hair in the front does that same thing. First I thought it was heat damage, but I dont use heat that often and my hair growing out of my scalp was the same type of texture. Then I thought my hair wasn't properly moisturized so I started moisturizing the crap out that area. That left me with a very moisturized, but still frizzy hair in the front. If anything I think it made it even more frizzy. I've tried gels and they help some. Well atleast for a little while. Finally I took a look at my hair when it was sopping wet. Right when I got out the shower. What I noticed is that the hair in the front grows out in waves almost like a ramen noodle. While the rest of my hair coils. It was still the same coil size as the rest of my hair (3c/4a) but it didn't coil, it just waved. I also dont have as much shrinkage in this area as the rest of my head especially when my hair in the front really started to grow out. I've just learned to accept it.

Interesting that you say that because mine dies that too I know it isn't heat damage because I don't use any. I'm going to really moisturized these areas and see what happens

You just have different textures. You could try applying more product or something like aloe vera gel to help those areas clump a bit more.

My hair does this. Sometimes, When my hair gets too frazzled or overmoisturized by cowashing my curl pattern droops a bit. I usually hit it up with a protein treatment and the the pattern acts like the rest a little, but not completely. If that doesn't do the trick, then I agree with the previous posters who said you have multiple textures.

I think you should try the ideas mentioned but keep in mind that it could simply be a different texture as well.

My hair in the front is more frizzie in that area and almost a different texture (more wavy than coil/curl). I find that I can't wear a standard WnG and expect it to look as neat as the rest or I have to work with it to tame the frizz.

You may need to just style that section differently. HTH..HHG!

I have to pay extra attention to my crown area going back a little cause it is a different texture. It dries faster than the rest of my hair so I have to make sure it is super wet and I apply a little extra product if I am doing a wash and go. Same for dry twist outs..have to apply a little extra product. I am still wondering if it is scab hair since I have only been natural a little over a year but I have embraced it no matter what it is hahahahaha
