"4A girl you crazy"

Ok so for a year now i thought my hair type was 4A. My aunt who has natural hair swore up and down she knew everything about hair types and i believed when she told me my hair type was a 4A. It wasnt until today when i was talking to a stylist that attends my school and told me i was crazy that my hair was actually a 3B with some 3C parts to it. she showed 3 more of her family members who are stylist as well and they said the same. Now i am looking thru the forum at some natural 4A hair and my curl pattern is wayyyy looser. My mom has 3A type hair and she said always thought she had 3B my aunt really had us messed up in the game. Im going to try to get some pics of my texture up by next week when i get my camera back

LOL, i don't know how to respond to this. I guess i can say that I'm glad that you were able to get the officicial word on your texture. Hopefully that will help with your regimen :)

I believe that knowing your hair type can help you with your regiment. I don't know mine per say but I know what my hair likes and doesn't like. I for one, don't get caught up on hair types because each head is still individual. I am a firm believer in what works on some doesn't work for all so you even though you now know your hair type you still have to create a regimen that works for you.

I so agree with you ScarletPhoenix, I am 4a and I heard of a lot of natural or transitioning 4a's using Suave tropical coconut conditioner and their hair feeling all wonderful and I tried using it and my hair ended up feeling like crap and extremely hard. So I went back to my VO5 and everything was good everything else in my routine stayed the same so I knew it was the conditioner. Just a lesson in what works for some doesn't work for all. Great advice!

I find when it comes to products, people who have my fine, yet silky/thready hair texture (not curl pattern) are the authority

But when it comes to styling, it's usually best to research and follow those who have a similar curl pattern and texture if applicable

Girl this happened to me as well. I thought I was mainly a 4a, but apparently I'm not b/c when I got my relaxer my stylist asked me if I had my hair braided or in twists b/c it kept going "round and round like a spiral". Needless to say, I put my hands in my hair later in the week and some parts of my hair are NOT relaxed lol She didn't know it was my new growth! IDK man. . .it's like loose curls and waves or something. . .maybe I'm more of a 3b/c then I thought. IDK my texture anymore but I do know I'm a combo of more than one lol

Oh that's a good idea. I never thought about that.

See this is exactly my point. My hair has 4a in some spots with 3C mostly and I love V05. Girl I use it all the time, I don't like Suave. My husband loves the tropical coconut conditioner/shampoo so I buy it for him and put peppermint oil in it, the man loves the tingling lol but for me it does nothing spectacular...nothing that my other conditioners didn't do but if I want that conditioned, moisturized feeling that I like after I rinse it out I use V05 or my Hairveda...NOTHING beats my hairveda moist. conditioner 24/7

girl, forget about Andre and his type-mania. What's your skin reggie? I want me some smooth complexion too :lachen:
