The British primary school student asked her father, professional hairstylist Marcello Marino, to make her look like a princess for her upcoming class photo. The salon owner went more rock princess than Cinderella, and tied his little girl's long blond hair into a tilted bow, a look popularized by Gaga back in 2009.
Marcella loved the look but her school didn't, according to the Daily Mail.

"When she went for the school photo on Monday she was told she wasn't allowed to wear her hair in that style because of the dress code," Marcello told the British paper.

In fact, the primary school his daughter attends has a very strict dress code, which is detailed on its website. With regards to hair, the school requests ribbons or bows are "made of dark colors, maroon/navy blue/black" and states strictly that "Hair braids/beads may not be worn."

Awww! That is super cool! Go dad! :)

Sooo how is her hair violating the dress code, based on the description in the OP? Am I missing something?

Her hair cute with not one bead, bright ribbon, or braid. They are hating on the little diva.

No braids? That sounds crazy. It's very traditional for little girls to wear their hair in braids.

The bow is made of a dark colour .... her hair

In Jamaica we werent allowed to wear braids or even plait your natural hair into more than 6 or 8 plaits at my high school (back when I went there, i think its changed now) Also could only wear small knob earrings and a wrist watch as jewelry. I went to a strict Catholic high school.

If its a private or faith based institution I dont see anything wrong with setting down some rules, particularly if the option for public school is available

So cute. I think they were worried about the other girls feeling inadequate

ETA: not saying this is right but I cant think of any other reason this is right becauae the do is pretty conservative to me.

No braids? What is wrong with braids? Does this apply to their students with highly textured hair as well? :perplexed:

Dumb dumb dumb. She is adorable. It is not a hair accessory or braids. Its her HAIR. I would take them to task if it were my child.

Awww she's a sweetie pie! I'm. Not understanding how this is a dresscode violation....people are just haters.......

Well, if those girls don't have a hairstylist daddy, (which is funny, cause I thought that the stylist would have been her mom), then they need to take a step back. The school doesn't want this to set precedence for 'weirder' styles and I see their point, but they could have made an exception for this lil cutie.

eta: Can someone please encourage the daddy to do a youtube video? I want to see how that style is created.
(Come on now, he does hair, so I KNOW that someone here knows him. )

How stinkin cute is she??? I'd have taken her to the same studio for her very own pics, and told her that she stole the show. Conformity sux!

I assumed they meant braids, like mircos etc, not regular plaits.

Honestly, beads arent necessary, I went through my whole childhood without a single bead in my hair or having my hair in more than 4 plaits (and I had my hair relaxed at 13).

There are videos on YouTube already showing this style Andreaschoice has a video. Did DD hair like this when she posted the video and DD loved it.

Where is the braid? She's adorable! I bet it was another parent who complained. How much ya wanna bet?

She looks adorable!

Her hair isn't in braids nor beads, so she's technically not breaking the "hair style" code. :smirk:
