I am really pushing for length now and wanted to share some ends savers and tips and get some ideas from you ladies about speeding hair growth or tips for retaining length.

Currently: I have a good vitamin regime: Need to increase water intake: Have started eating my veggies without whining! Making sure I give my hair a lot of moisture etc etc. I use the proper combing and brushing techniques and tie my hair up faithfully at night and under my hats when I go out. Another thing I do is when I want to wear my hair down around the house or just play in it or section to style etc. I wear an old silk shirt (I have 3) that I picked up at GoodWill. This keeps my hair from snagging and I feel comfortable "letting down my hair" for an hour or so. Also, I cut off the arms and into sections of real old silk shirts and make my own scrunchies without elastics. Just put my hair through the cut off and double and triple it till it fits securely. I use the plastic hair pins. I do a lot to protect my hair and do not have any split ends. Neither do I trim ( I do it once a year if necessary since I am growing out layers and at present does not appear to be necessary) In future I will encourage a natural V shape.
Have any of you tried Sheep sorrel, Nettles, Sage and Rosemary and Emu Oil as intensive follicle stimulants?
I know that I could not do the Pine Oil-Tar Sulphur thing. I try to avoid really heavy scents and I have heard that one is potent! How much growth on average are you getting each year? Are you going for bra strap or waistlength stretched or naturally positioned at that length? Is anyone doing head massages, lying on a slant board...head stands...lol? Is anyone oiling the scalp...o.k.ok..I know, give someone a chance to answer.... /images/graemlins/blush.gif /images/graemlins/cool.gif Please do not use the "PATIENCE" word /images/graemlins/mad.gif

Re: 3bs cottony fine curly spongy past shoulder s?

Hello Ms Mahalialee it's Quinny. I had to reregister. I think I let mine lapse! I'm still trying to figure out what type my hair is but I call it 4a/b even though I think it is more 4a. It is fine and the front is probably considered 3b. The length is between shoulder blades in the back.
Okay let's talk hair. My hair has been through some woe's and whatnots over the years. In the past the thing that has worked the absolute best for me in increasing the length quickly has been working the scalp. Of course I didn't know that was what I was doing at the time but it worked. I like strong scents so a little potent tea tree oil didn't bother me. I would massage that in a few times a week. I also doused my head with jojoba oil (my sister still laughs at this one). I used to do vinegar rinses religiously and now I do lemon juice ones.
Currently I'm just doing a number of things. A mixture of Cathy Howse's method and Carolyn Gray's mostly. I have to be careful how I deal with my hair while it is in the natural state because I'm prone to headaches if my hair is pulled too tight so styling is always an issue for me.
Sometimes I press. Right now I'm sick of pressing so I'm wearing it natural. I have to section it into 4 parts and shampoo and condition each section seperately in the shower because of the length. Since my major hack in June it is about 3 inches above BS. I'm going for hip length myself. I love to absolutely saturate my hair with conditioner. Since doing a bit of research and discovering that hair is it's strongest when the pH is between 4 and 7 I have been using pH balanced shampoos and conditioners. My fav is Jason's Biotin Conditioner because it tingles my scalp.
I made my own satin and silk scrunchies. I gave the extras to my sister and other family members. I sleep with silk scarves and I want to use the stocking leg to keep it on but it's too tight and gives me a headache.
Okay let's share!

quinny

Im newly natural. Well lets say ive been natural for about 5 months. I was wondering how long it took to grow your hair to your shoulder blades. And I also wanted to ask you if essential oils really do help with hair growth.

Re: quinny

Hi Carmella. I started with hair that was about at the base of my neck. I will say it took about a year a year and a half or so. I had a relaxer and then grew that out while blow drying and curling (iron). I was taking vitamins for a period of time then too. I take them more religiously now. That particular area is my major wall! It is most difficult for me to grow my hair past that point.
I think there are several things that can help you to have your hair grow at it's maximum speed. I think the esssential oils I was rubbing on my scalp helped to invigorate it. I like peppermint, rosemary and tea tree.
