I will never ever do this style of braid again! I tried silky locs on my daughter and I still have a little to do in the crown today after I get off work. I think they are very pretty but this is a two person's job!!!!

@Harina

Thank you. Yes i viewed a couple yt videos. I already had a general idea of what to do I just wanted to make sure my assumptions were correct.

OT: I love your siggy. It always melts my heart when i see it
You are skilled. Did you watch a tutorial or something to learn how to do them?

I agree but good lawd. The braiding took me maybe 9-10 hrs its the wrapping that's so time consuming but of course add in for trial and error on a few. I was getting a few unraveling but I found my error.
But its so beautiful!

Oh no eyunka, you're scaring me...4 days?? :blush: I'd planned to do these (with Marley hair, not the silky kind) this weekend.

Even still, these are gorgeous! I'm excited to see whether mine will turn out as well, if a little apprehensive about the time investment, lol. How long are yours? Would you mind linking (some of) the tutorials you used?

@nubiennze

The locs are midback. I'm at work so give me a little bit on the videos. I will say this I did this style with yarn and it was quicker because i didn't have to braid her hair all the way down before wrapping. It took me maybe 14 hours i think.

I haven't used Marley hair before but I'm thinking because of the texture you might not have to braid all the way down. Braid to just the end of your hair. I choose to braid all the way down because i tried for uniformity. I found when i didn't braid all the way down the braid began to get skinner where the braid stopped it that makes sense.

It wasn't really 4 days. I started thursday around 6pm and stopped at 10pm. Friday we started at 630am and stopped at 6pm stopping only twice to eat. Saturday we started at 6pm until 11pm and Sunday 7am until 11am

i knew it lol. As soon as i saw the title i knew it was either putting hair in or taking hair out that would take that long. But they are very beautiful. They look like natural dreads

pelohello

Maybe try the yarn wraps 1st. The next set i do with be the yarn wraps again but I will make them smaller. i used 3 strings to braid with a 2 to wrap with. This time around i will do only two and two.

Below is the 1st set I didn on my dd
You did an amazing job. Now I want to try it on myself, but I dont think I can do 20hrs.

I think they look fine! Did you do a two strand twist first, or a braid?

I still love mine with marley hair!

I'm still not finished. I worked on them for couple hours last night and just didn't feel good. I have like 9 left which should equate to a little over an hour. She did wear it down today

@pelohello

I'm not sure if you were asking about the yarn or synthetic hair. Of course if you leave anyone in long enough it will lock. With the yarn wraps we let those stay in a month and a half and there was no locking. Synthetic I'm not sure how long but we only plan to leave them in around the same amount of time. I hope this answers your questions.

@nubiennze and pelohello
I viewed this video as a reference. I just viewed this video and its not too bad.
@eyunka, does this style cause dreading? What utube videos did you watch do to this style?

Four days?!!!!!!!!!!!! You should receive a reward for most patient person! Couldn't be me LOL

Your hair looks gorgeous

Funnily enough, I was thinking about getting some silky locs for my next hairstyle. I can tell that its going to be time intensive but I don't think I'll be able to find someone to do them for me to a high standard. I don't want to be walking around with an epic fail on my head.

OP yours looks good. Please post some tips on how you did them.

From trial and error here is what i learned and suggest

1. Do all the braiding 1st (I tried to braid then wrap:nono:)

2. If you want uniformity braid all the way down to the end. I found if i didn't the braid would get skinner. (hope that makes sense)

3. Its easier to use a flat iron to burn the ends instead of a lighter

4. I choose to use the lenght of the already pre-cut braiding hair for both braiding and wrapping.

5. Do not double the hair when wrapping. :nono: If you don't want to use a long string of hair you can cut it but when you get to the end of that piece you are wrapping use the flat iron to seal a little then start wrapping with another piece.

That's all about all i got

Thanks.

I wouldn't have thought about using a flat iron to seal the ends.
