2 threads in 1 - Maybe black hair DOESNT grow & edges ripped out

I have 2 things, but don't want to go crazy starting a million threads so I combined them
1. Maybe some african hair DOESNT grow. I shaved my head in September. we are coming to December and I have 1cm - not inch - CENTIMETER - are you kidding me? My husband is mixed and has been for TWO haircuts since :nono: we eat the same diet.

I have been lurking on some threads about suppliments and haitian secrets and all that but at the moment there is no money for ANY new products so until at least new year there will be no magic potions.

2. In July a stylist glued a lace front to my head and I ripped it off. Not clever I know. I still have a thin line of just skin and no hair where the glue ripped off on my edges. will this ever grow back?

1. Has your hair always grown slow? I used to work with a white check who said she hadn't had a hair cut in over 5 yrs and was barely SL. She had the weakest strands and slowest growth I've ever seen.

2. It's possible it won't. My MIL has scare tissue on her scalp from a glued weave almost 10 yrs ago. The hair has never fully grown back in.

I'm sorry but I had to laugh at how you emphasized that it's a ''centimetre'' and not an inch:lachen:

I see you're from the UK also. Perhaps the water is contributing to your dryness? My mum is always complaining about the ''hard water'' so recently we bought a water filter, and have noticed a REAL change.

If you're constantly co-washing with hard-water that could be sabotaging your hair growth. I'm sure your hair as more potential, you just need to tap into it.

Ermm do you take multi-vitamins?

OP you seem to be very concerned with your hair from the threads you have made lately.

Remeber a watched pot never boils!

If you were able to shave your head then obviously your hair will grow. An you are possibly discovering now that you are a slow grower. Thats okay, the whole 1/2 an inch a month represents an average; some will grow more, some will grow less

I got caught up length early in my hair journey. I suggest focusing on yourself and just let your hair be on the back burner for a while. Growth is going to seem slow as you grow out the twa. It will make this process more enjoyable.

For the bald spot try massaging castor oil, you may see some growth. But there is a possiblity that the damage could be permanent

I don't know if it has always grown slow - I used to do touch ups on my relaxer every 6-8 weeks and assumed it had grown about an inch :lachen: but I am one of those people who always had someone else 'do' their hair for them, so I can't really say - I never gained length but I assumed that was from breakage.

I have a sad about your MIL's story  - I'll just be grateful there was not even more damage in my case.

"black" hair does grow. Maybe hair doesn't grow as quickly for some due to deficiencies, illness, genetics, etc. That would apply to anyone regardless of race. There are tons of Afro heritage around here to tell you that what you said is a myth

2. Yes it will grow back. I was a long time lace wig user/abuser. I wore them for almost two years straight. My edges were GONE honey. I thought they would never return. Well, I'd had enough of glues/tapes/adhesives so I just started bobby pinning my wigs down, and lo and behold, my edges have returned good as before.

Lucille - yes, we are in a hard water area but a softener is not in the budget any time soon.

Me - um, I didn't pay the phone bill
Husband - why?
Me - because I needed special water for my hair...

um...no lol

PPGbubbles - I guess I am just excited - I never thought I could have nice hair too - it is only on this forum I realised that 'good hair' is often just well cared for hair and I want that too! I want it long enough to corn row it then I can stop thinking about it every 12 seconds.

Chioniso This is exciting :yep: just dont stress too much

If you take good hair of your hair, the length will come in time.

I love this pic and it is quite true whether your black or white. with average growth rate you will see length in time. Also factor in that you are starting from a shaved head

Save money and just buy a water filter that is £8, from either Argos/Sainsburys any of those retailers. The tap would cost you £100+ but right now you can just invest in the jug? It does the same job, you'll just have to refill, lol.

Honestly, I don't think you should fret so much.

When I first BC'ed I didn't even do protein treatments. My regimen was very low maintenance. I mean, how much moisture/protein does 1cm hair need? You feel me? lol.

I also felt like my hair wasn't growing.. until I looked back at pictures. Try and not fret too much, and just enjoy your hair sweety.

I agree that hard water isn't helpful, so I bought one of the filter jugs shown above but a) it doesn't soften the water completely, just removes impurities and b) it's a drama washing your hair with a jug of cold water. However, I'm thinking of investing in a shower head unit. I saw them on eBay for something like £25. It's simply a shower head you just screw on to the existing handle.

Hair only grows on average 1/2 inch ( 1.27cm) per month. You cut your hair 2 months ago so you would have at the most about 2.54cm if your hair follows the average growth rate.

However, between ripping lace fronts off your head, doing protein DCs every 2 weeks, regular DCs once a week, moisturising and sealing... :drunk:
Maybe you're just doing to much. Try leaving it alone a bit and not manipulating so much to see how it grows. And not in another 2 months because honestly an inch of hair is barely noticeable, wait 6 months to make a true assessment :yep:

Women sometimes have higher requirements for vitamins and minerals than men. Iron is one example that immediately springs to mind. So don't say no to supplements - budget permitting of course.

Good luck!

Is your hair 1 cm shrunken or stretched? Stretched 1 cm, might come out to about 1 inch, or about 1/3 of an inch per month which is normal for some black people.

As already said, all hair grows yes, but the only part that bothers me a bit is when people are led to believe there's something wrong with them because they don't sprout hair down their back in one year. Fact is - 1/2 inch per month is an average. Meaning some people have faster rates and others have slower rates. And plenty of black people have a slower growth rate than average - it's not necessarily because disease or vitamin deficiency, just a unique fact of their physiology. To say otherwise would be like telling every woman on this board there's something wrong with her if she's not 5'10". If you have a slower growth rate, it doesn't mean your hair won't get longer over time, you just have to be patient and get good at retaining the length you get.

With that said, you don't need to spend a lot of money on your hair to see results. You probably have olive oil or coconut oil in your kitchen or you can get it from the store for cheap. Also if you can get a basic multivitamin it can help you in more ways that one for your hair and overall health.

^^^All of this.

Ripping lace fronts can leave damaged/weakened hair in the layers right beneath the skin. When those strands finally hit the surface they are already doomed.

I agree. I think your using too much protein.

I think you need to baggy at night :yep:

If you can't afford a filter, buy and use bottled water.

Also, watching your SO get 2 haircuts when you are still in a twa can be frustrating :lachen: Stop watching, log on and talk to us :yep:
