I have never installed a braid in my life, thanks to inspiration from Kellum and countless views of youtube~ I tried my hand at it over the holiday weekend and this is the result.

This means if I can do it, you can do it!!!!

I used Vanna's Choice (expresso) in the back and sides and highlighted the top with Red Heart ?brown? I didn't see a name of the color on the yarn. I really am enjoying them and hope to keep them in for 4 wks.

It should be against the law to look that gorgeous!! between the lovely brown even skin and the hair that looks like highlighted locs?!?!?!:thud::love3:

Flawless gorgeous, Absolutely breath-taking GREAT job:clapping:

I can't wait to try this...it definitely helps that a certain fine former flame is turned on by locs:evillaugh::giggle:

Wow! I'm flattered~thank you.

No one would ever know that it's yr first time doing them. They look very professional and uniform. I know it took you some time to do them though! I have some in myself but I do mines bigger. I just can't stand the thought of taking them down!:lachen:

I didn't say, but you should use %100 Acrylic instead of wool or cotton. Wool, I understand locs your hair and cotton absorbs all of your hairs moisture.

I learned from the mistakes and advice of others.

I wanted to do mine bigger but being that I've never braided I was afraid to make the parts any bigger. How many strands of yarn do you use?

Thank you, I'm still learning. What are you all spritzing on your yarn braids? I'm thinking about using jojoba oil and water mix. What do you think?

Whoa! These look Professional! You really did a great job---how long did they take you to do? about the spritz I would do Rose water or (distilled water) EVOO and a little pepermint ---I avoid using jojoba on braids because even though the oil acts as sebum it really performs as a wax and that could lock in your hair. Very pretty braids. :)

All these gawjus yarn braid posts are making me want some...but not enough to get off my lazy tookus and actually do them, lol...you did an amazing job though OP. :yep:

Get 'im girl!

Girl your yarn braids look great!!!! Congrats I know you are glad to be done with them, I know I was. I have been using water with V05 strawberries and milk conditioner to spritz on my braids for moisture. It keeps them moist as well as my NG.

FYI: Be careful when washing them. I did it last night and dc'd and they were so heavy that I thought my neck was gonna snap. They hold onto water really well!!!!!!!!!!

You know I saw that other color yarn when I was in JoAnns and picked it up too, but put it back down. It looks good together. I may try that next time mixing the two together.

how many packs did you end up using and how many strands per a braid? I might try these in the spring.

I think I ended up using 1.5-2 packs. I used one whole Vanna's choice, some more from another Vanna's choice and probably half of the Red Heart.

The Vanna's Choice is smaller than Red Heart. I want to use less next time or have less braids at least.

Thanks for that advice! I haven't put anything on them yet. It took me all day Sat., Sun, and 3hrs on Mon.!!!!! When I say all day, that exactly what I mean! Maybe it will be faster on my next install.

go head girl they look cute, i have them in as well. i love them, after these i'm going to do the yarn twists

My son and girlfriend said that the expresso has a purple tint to it, but I like it better than the color on top because it's closest to my natural color. They have some lighter colors that would give a blondish look which I think would be a cute highlight also.

Okay this looks like you went to the salon and paid $150 to have this done. Seriously. You did a very professional install there Missy! :yep:

How did you get the ends to look so professional? Did you cut, tie, burn, what?

Details Seymour Details!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I near the end of the braid, I tied it twice, cut the excess and then burned it by using a duck clip to hold the end. Flicking that lighter 100x numbed my thumb!
